The packaging looks cool. I will wait awhile to buy this.

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

You have two options when you buy this season. The regular packaging and the comicbook guy plastic packaging. Is the comicbook guy packaing just a shell around the regular packaging? I'm only asking because Target is being bunch of bitches with their pricing. I can't get the regular package at sales price. Just wanted to know so I could throw away the plastic shell and then match my other seasons.

Yeah, the face is just attached to the regular packaging with some rubber-glue, that should come off easily - and you can just toss that along with the plastic slip cover and get yourself the regular packaging. I don't understand why Target would price them different as the have the same SKU.

BTW, I really dig the foldout artwork on the set along with the booklet - the booklets in these Simpsons packages are the best in the business.

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

It took me a few seasons but I finally stopped buying the "head" packaging. I just think the face plate is much dumber than the head cases. Plus it's just the regular packaging with the plate on top of it, so I finally passed on buying the face plate this time around.

On another note, I must point out that this season is when it started going down hill (IMO) the Halloween episode is probably one of the weakest. However there are some pretty good episodes (Bart's boy band, Krusty's daughter, etc.) but overall I think this is when the series started getting bad (IMO).

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

Well, as debatable as it is, the big downfall was at the end of Season 9. Great beginning - then all of a sudden it took a nosedive. Season 10 is almost unwatchable to me - 11 isn't far behind. I see myself enjoy 12 more now that I've watched the first two discs - I haven't seen some of these in a few years but Skinner's Sense of Snow has always been one of my favorite episodes.

I forget what "gems" are in 13. Those I haven't seen since they first aired.

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

The dive for me began near the end of Season 8 with the "Simpsons Spin-off Showcase", namely the Smile-Time Variety Hour. I realized that the show was indeed not bullet proof and had peaked seasons ago, although some good episodes came in the next few seasons. I still watched most of Season 12 as it aired on tv and agree that Skinner's Sense of Snow was a great episode but around this time is when I tuned out on the show. The show became 'Simpsons go to random foreign exotic place' and 'clever musical spoof umpteenth' to me more or less around this juncture.

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

Skinner's Sense of Snow is a pretty damn good episode. I just think that the Treehouse of Terror episode in season 12 isn't as good as others. I think the dolphin part was flat out stupid, it just seemed that they were trying too hard. I think the first part was pretty good, but the other 2 stories were pretty crappy.

False. Many people have experienced scratched discs with the season 11 and 12 sets, including me.

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

The inside of the case in Season 12 is different from 11, isn't i? I'm too lazy to take out the 11 set but the inside of where the discs are stored aren't the same material which explains the scratching.

My disc 1 is scratched. I'm sick, though, don't feel like returning it, and it seems tp be playing ok, so I'll keep it. Haven't checked the other discs yet.

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

I watched all four discs; no problem playing any of the episodes. I haven't looked at the Season 11 packaging in a while, but I do think it had a rough back whereas the one here is very slick. The discs in Season 12 slid out MUCH easier than I remember the ones from Season 11 coming out. Still, I put the discs in a paper sleeve and put 'em in between the accordion-style packaging to make it easier in the future and prevent any possible scratching.

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

I'll wait for a sale on this season, this is the point where I still enjoy the seasons but not enough to pay $40 CDN for it.

Some classics in S12 though (A Tale of Two Springfields, The Computer Wore Menace Shoes, Skinner's Sense of Snow)

S13 will have some decent episodes also (Homer the Moe, I Am Furious Yellow, Papa's Got a Brand New Badge)

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

I think season 14 was when the show REALLY started to get weak (At least for me). A lot of the episodes were unwatchable and cringe-inducing (Such as Strong Arms of the Ma, Helter Shelter and Large Marge). I think I will stop at season 13.

Isn't Large Marge the episode where she gets implants? If that's the case I love that episode.

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

Two of the discs in my set made horrible vibrating sounds in my dvd player. I suspect the tight packaging and/or shrinkwrap has warped them.

It is. And I despise that episode. Truly.

I'm a completest, I can't just stop buying them. I'll be going on till the end since I didn't really see anything from Season 14 - Season 18. I didn't have a TV and only caught a couple of episodes in syndication here and there.

I will say I think Mike Scully is something else. I watched the deleted scenes from S12 with the commentary on and the jokes that got cut were terrible as it is - but he was talking as if each one was this golden gem that he was sad for cutting. One of the jokes was so awful, though, he actually admitted that "it's funny on paper but it really didn't work out". Yeah, like most of the season.

He definitely ranks as my least favorite show runner.

Scully was/is horrible. He fucked the show up so bad that it was impossible for Al Jean to improve it too much when he took the reigns from him.

Re: The Simpsons: Season 12 (Comic Book Guy Head Packaging)

Yeah, mine are scratched too. It doesn't affect play but it's really annoying.

I posted this over at the No Homers Club board but thought those here might like to know.

While watching Simpson Safari, I couldn't help but notice that "Time" is blurred out on Maggie's X-Ray when they first pan to it (sorry about the quality I can't take screen caps and could only use my iPhone):

But then, in the next pan to after Hibbert reads the headline, it's fine:

I only saw the original airing once and haven't seen it since so I don't recall if it was originally broadcast this way, but I think that's pretty silly. I guess this is why after that "Barney's Birthday" fiasco in Season 10 they dropped the word "Complete" from the season sets.

There was a line where Homer referenced Barney's birthday as Hitler's, but in subsequent airings they changed it to Lassie. The Season 10 set only included one of the lines.

From Wiki:
When Homer and Flanders are at the roulette wheel, Homer mutters that Barney Gumble's birthday is April 20th "same day as Hitler's" (which is accurate). In the reruns and on the season 10 DVD set, the line is changed to "July 15th, same day as Lassie's". Recently, syndicated reruns restored the "Hitler" line but the closed captioning still says "Lassie".
