I wasn't impressed with La Femme Publique as a movie, although the disc itself was very well done. Since I'm not in the habit of writing off a director after seeing only one effort, I'll have to add this one to the Netflix queue instead of buying blind.

As far as I can see the transfer is just as well done as La Femme Publique. Packaging-wise, the SE matches the digipak setup from the La Femme SE. The LE is a very deluxe velvet case with some neat goodies.

Specs, from DVD Active:
Looks fantastic, as expected:
Mondo Vision has released details for their upcoming limited edition and special edition releases of L’Important C’Est D’Aimer for 16th June. Directed by Andrzej Zulawski and based on a story written by Christopher Frank, this film follows a love affair in the French film business. This film is presented in an uncut 113 minutes long 1.66:1 Anamorphic transfer with either French mono (as approved by the director), an English dub or German Dub, and optional English subtitles in either yellow or white.
The special edition is presented on a dual layer disc, held within a Digipak case and hardcover slipcase. It will feature: a digitally restored transfer mastered in high definition progressive scan that has been approved by the director, a feature-length commentary by the director and writer Daniel Bird, an interview with the director, a trailer, a piece comparing the original film to the remastered version, an image gallery and a 24-page booklet featuring a newly-written essay by Daniel Bird.
Alternatively there is the limited edition presented in a specially designed white leatherette case, which is limited to just 2000 numbered copies. This release contains a second disc that features a rare remastered version of the score. In addition there will be a 48-page commemorative booklet including the essay as mentioned above, plus an essay by Max Tessier, an interview with the director and critical press reviews. Other items include a certificate of authenticity and five (5x7) colour poster reproductions.

Never seen it, but it was spoken highly of in the Z Channel doc and sounds really interesting as a touchstone for 70s European arthouse film. I think I might blind buy the LE if my Ipcress File sells on eBay for enough to cover it.

Cool. Hear about this on the Z Channel doc, and I'll definitely give it a rental, at the very least.

Re: Zulawski's The Important Thing is To Love from Mondo Vision: 6/16/09
After my front door was recently kicked in, I had to replace various items in my home theater (-ish) setup. The bastard thieves left my 10+ year old VCR (and some good stuff including an Oppo 981 and an Onkyo 806.)
I had to replace a Harmony remote and add some new components to the setup.
Anyway, since I was screwing around with cables and reprogramming the remote, I decided to go ahead and make sure that the VCR was hooked up and available in case I wanted to revisit some old tapes. I cannot remember the last time it was hooked up to anything.
After it was hooked up, I pressed play and this movie was sitting in the player. I've never actually seen it, have no recollection of taping it, and it kinda freaked me out.

The kind of cool thing about these Zulawski releases is that they are the company owner's favorite films, so you can imagine how the design process goes.

DVDTimes has the first review of the disc I can find. I think I might drop the big bucks on this one, it looks awesome!

The only rental place I've seen it listed on is GreenCine.com. I've never tried them personally, though.

just received the standard edition yesterday thru Amazon and started watching it last night. this film is blowing me away so far. i've only seen "Possession", as far as Andrezj Zulawski goes, and that film left me in awe. can't wait till Mondovision puts Possession out!
and great work, bunny! the packaging even on the standard edition is probably one of the finest in my collection! makes me wish i would've shelled out the extra cash for the limited one. :*(

The limited edition is probably the nicest edition in my collection. That is no small feat. I have collections with far more bells and whistles, but nothing as well made as this. I'm almost scared to take it out! Excellent work bunnydojo, must be nice working with someone who wants something to be as nice as you want to make it.

Thanks for the kind words, TheySentYou and zombeaner.
And I'm really happy to hear you like the release -- there haven't been a lot of reviews for this one the way there were for La Femme Publique, so it's great to know people are pretty happy with how things came out.

I bought La Femme Publique from an amazon marketplace seller that had a high rating that had it for a more reasonable price.
