Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XII
con's
-to many raw matches, i like to see them on there, but way to much, should of put more better matches and take away a few tv matches
-not enough from his prime years from mid to late 90s, to much from the last 5 years
pro's
-one night stand match with bulldog, awesome underrated match i hope they include the aftermath of it
-casket match vs taker, good match and nice to see them not shy away from this
-hbk promo on hogan in montreal, classic promo
-glad to see both hbk/angle and hbk/taker from wrestlemania on here, not everybody gets the ppv dvds, i mostly get the superstar dvds cause most ppvs only have 1 or 2 good matches i want, so i wait for them to come on dvds like this
overall im happy but still could of been better, i give it 7.5/10

Correct me if needed, but most of the Michael's stuff has not been released before, right? (I ask because I don't have From The Vault or The Boyhood Dream).

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XII
the one thing that annoys me is that the jericho/michaels ladder match isnt on here. also it would have been nice to see his match with triple h at summerslam 2002 on here but whatever, it still looks good

I had the Best of Raw 2009 for $19.95 in my hands today but when I went to the register at K-Mart they wouldn't sell it to me because of the street date.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XII
This happened to me few times in the past with Best Buy putting stuff out early.
The last time it happened was when they put out the Best of Smackdown 10th Anniversary DVD like a week and a half early and they wouldn't sell it because the checkout system locked the sale saying "not to sell before XXX date". Person said they can't sell it because it has a locked date and if they break it the store gets a fine of $5,000.
After that they had other DVDs out early but i didn't bother to pick them up because they wouldn't sell it, so why bother.

-Disc 1 looks solid. Not really into older AWA stuff, but it is of note, and I'll bet the matches are solid. Don't really remember those RAW matches, but I'll bet they're good, too.
-Disc 2 seems to have a lot of stuff available on other discs.
-Disc 3, aside from HBK/HHH is nothing but already available PPV matches. I happen to have every single one on DVD, and is a bit of bust. The good news is for the people who said "the only reason to get WM 25 is for UT/HBK." Now they don't have to get WM 25.
I would have rather seen less recent PPV matches, and more TV and older ppvs. Such as:
-vs. Diesel - WrestleMania 11
-vs. Sid Vicious - Survivor Series 1996
-vs. Sid Vicious - Royal Rumble 1997
-HBK vs. John Cena - first match - October '05
-Randy Orton & Edge vs. HBK - Handicap match - January '07
-HBK vs. Chris Jericho - Last Man Standing - RAW, 11/08
-HBK vs. Kurt Angle - 30 minute iron man match - RAW Homecoming

The LMS with Jericho was great also would have included Jericho/HBK II from RAW on July 21, 2003 in Los Angeles. Both were fun matches.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XII
Was at Best Buy today and to my surprise they put out John Morrison Rock Star.
It seems as if it's only 1 disc rather than 2 disc with Digital copy unless the digital copy is FYE exclusive since that is the only site listing it. But it looks like its only 1 disc here in Canada and probably everywhere else.
I didn't bother to get it since the cashier wouldn't even be able to process it, since it will lock out the sale saying "not to sell before Feb. 16". This happened to me few times at Best Buy, Future Shop and Walmart so if i see a DVD out early at those stores i don't bother getting it. I'm sure someone will probably try to buy it and once they find out it's put out early they will remove it from the shelves.

To respond to both posts about HBK/Y2J matches, the one they had in July 2003 was very good, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it on a Jericho set one day. It's the only time Jericho beat HBK cleanly.
As for their "final encounter," the ladder match was their last on ppv, but Unforgiven was the culmination of the storyline. HBK whooped Jericho's ass, and after Jericho won the title later on in the night, HBK then become #1 contender. It was more of an afterthought than an actual feud.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XII
Just some random thoughts on the Morrison and HBK disks...
The match selection for the Morrison set is downright weak. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's nothing but post-name change TV matches on the thing, right? No PPV matches, no MNM matches, no Johnny Nitro matches and nothing from OVW. It's a waste. I'm not saying the guy is worthy yet of a 3-disk marathon, but if they're going to release this set they might as well make it 2-disks and throw in a good chunk of early footage. I'm sure the documentary will be fine. But I'm pretty underwhelmed otherwise.
The HBK disks are definitely more interesting. I'm glad to see the World Class and AWA stuff represented since I always love random matches from other organizations being included. And having tag matches against the Brainbusters and Hart Foundation is great. Beyond that, I like the fact that many of the bouts aren't the typical "expected" inclusions. It's Michaels vs. a bunch of A-listers, but kept a little more fresh. So I think I'll most likely give up my 20 bills on the Show Stopper and pass on the Rock Star.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XII
Yeah the Morrison DVD is too soon and too focused on the John Morrison character/name. No MNM/Nitro matches is a dissapointment. I like JoMo but I will wait to see if his career progresses to the main event and in turn another DVD release and a more full career retrospective.
HBK's DVD however is however another exciting and somewhat fresh compilation. I will definitely be picking it upon it's release date and I'm hoping to find a special edition of some sorts with a bonus disc or something. Although I dout I'll find anything because WWE seems to have stopped with exclusives and bonuses.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XII
I went back to my nearest Best Buy that had the Morrison DVD out early and decided to buy it to see if it would check out or not and when the cashier scanned it a notice came up on the bottom "Not to sell before Feb. 16" and wouldn't continue further.
He was pretty surprised it was out that early and the conversation went like this:
Cashier - "ummmm where did you find this?"
Me - "in the general interest section"
Cashier - "this wasn't suppose to be out"
Me - "i didn't know that...is there anyway to override it?"
Cashier - "i could...but i could get in big trouble and the studio would fine the store $5,000 for every copy sold...Sorry bro.
Me -
I remember years ago Best Buy, Future Shop, and Walmart never had this street date lock in their system and you could buy WWE DVDs that were put out early without any problems.
Almost every DVD i bought in 2003-2005 were found like 1-2 weeks early at Best Buy and Walmart and i use to get it without that stupid system lock.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XII
There is an ad on the back of the newest WWE mag from Lifelock with the following text:
"WWE Universe members - act now to receive a 10% discount and a Free Collectible WWE DVD when you sign up at LifeLock.com! Call 1-800-LIFELOCK or visit www-lifelock-com and use promocode WWE2"
I checked the site and didn't see anything so I called them and the CSR didn't know which WWE DVD it was.
Anyone want to sign up and let us know what the dvd is?
The fine print says the DVD has a retail value of $35 and you must be a member for at least 30 days to get the DVD. Also, the DVD's will be mailed within 60 days of enrollment.

Will Canada be gettting the Best of Raw on Blu-Ray?
Amazon Canada still has it listed and it is the saem regio as the US.
I wonder if this is like the Best of 2001 that was a Canadian exclusive.

The only place around me that has that stupid release date notification is KMart. I've found 2-3 dvds there out early over the years only to be dissed at the register. Ugh.
For those interested, Kayfabecommentaries.com is having a nice sale...Buy 2 Get 1 Free on all their titles. I recommend checking out the Guest Booker series (Cornette, Gagne) Youshoot (Sullivan, HTM), & Timeline (HTM, Rikishi, Muraco). Spend the $40 and get a couple dvds-well worth the $$$.
My latest pickups are Youshoot New Jack, Youshoot Hardcore Holly & YouShoot Sandman. Will be grabbing Best of Raw 09 this Tuesday.

There are many workers who stock stuff on shelves and sometimes it will be someone who is unaware of street dates. You can't train them all about this stuff right away. Sometimes it's a planogram that is tied on Sunday but the release date isn't until Tuesday for some items, so the item is accidently put out early by someone who was just doing their job.
I don't even try anymore if I see something out early. Why set yourself up for dissapointment? And even if I do try it's just "it's worth a shot" type of thing. No reason to get upset about something you knew was probably going to happen. Is it so hard to simply wait for the realease date? "Ugh"

I have to agree. It's really not a big deal at all. If you have to wait a few days or a week, why does it even matter? I have gotten a few things before street date over the years, and I was pleased to be in the right place at the right time, but I wouldn't have cared if they had denied me, either.
That said, don't almost all the shipping boxes have huge stickers or text on them that say "not for sale until xx-xx-xx" or something similar? It shouldn't be too much to expect store employees to be able to glance at the boxes they are busting open-especially when anyone working in a store electronics department should be at least somewhat aware that DVD's and music are street dated items.

I work in retail. Electronics Dept. So I know how it works with street dates and such. I don't get upset when Im not allowed to buy a DVD/CD that was accidently put out on the shelf early at a store. Sure it's on the store that it was put out early or whatever. But it was a mistake.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume XII
I work at Target as well. Occasionally Tuesday items get tied on Sunday or a release date is pushed back to a Friday which can also cause this problem. The boxes they come in do usually say not to sell until xx/xx/2010 but once they are backstocked they are taken out of those boxes. And if they get tied out on the sales floor they will be pulled from the back and sometimes stocked if someone unaware is stocking them. Bottom line is there are a number of situations in which it can happen. And it is illegal for a retailer to over ride a transaction for an item that is street dated for a future date and will result in a fine. So if anyone expects to use "the customer is always right" routine then think again. It's just something that can't be done, especially now that the registers alert you of the street date and won't complete the transaction.
