Not my favorite genre, but I figure there's enough on my unwatched pile to at least make a short list. First one: Splice. Predictable, but not terrible.

Meadowoods (2010) - N - * - Wasn't expecting much, netflix user ratings were quite low. Very disturbing little low budget mockumentary-style film about three kids who decide to commit murder. Fairly well done, and sticking with me, not sure if I'd recommend it or watch it again though. I just picked it to get a 2010 film out of the way for the checklist.

I never heard back from them on my PM to them. I did notice that one of the posts was edited, but I'm not sure what was changed. Anyone else want to try? Maybe point them to this thread so we can help them out?
The other option would be to reply directly to them in the list thread and then delete your own post at a later time once they seem to acknowledge. Once again, maybe steer them to this thread?

I'm really hesitant to throw myself out here as the defendant of Halloween II but I watched it for the first time this morning and I didn't see what is so wrong with it. It's a flawed film to be sure and my least favorite of Rob Zombie's movies.
Still I thought it was a decent follow-up to Rob Zombie's first Halloween. If you didn't like that one the sequel won't bring you around. I didn't take it too seriously and I didn't hate it. It's not a glowing recommendation but if you watch it you might not hate it either.

[snip]For all practical purposes they are one and the same as far as non-porn films are concerned. The name has been changed to protect the innocent...
Given that, I'd say either eliminate the "X" rating from the checklists *or* just use a NC-17 film in that slot since as far as the MPAA is concerned it's the same thing, just notated differently.

In any event, we followed our streaming of Teeth with both ALDS baseball games, which brought us up to around midnight. We continued to knock off horror titles from our Unwatched Pile (our personal goal for the month), going with a Starz original feature, The Darkroom. We picked it up at Half Price Books a while back because it was 1) cheap and 2) starred Reed Diamond, whom I've liked since first seeing him on Homicide: Life on the Street.
In this one, he's spent 15 years in an institution with amnesia, having been found wandering a dirt road with blood on his hands. After receiving a dosage of an experimental drug, he's flooded with snippets of violent images. A psychotic reaction, or memories of things he may have done? Those scenes are pretty solid; they reminded us of the Scarecrow drug sequences in Batman Begins, only with more gore. The feature itself clocks in just shy of 90 minutes, and the truth is it could probably stand to shed about 5 to 10 minutes to make it less predictable.
After that, we went to bed and I watched Horror Express starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. The A/V quality was terrible; it looked like someone had taped it off a TV broadcast, and this gave it more of a feel of a sophisticated play than an actual film. Still, the premise was really solid and compelling, and the performances were (mostly) mood-appropriate. The premise is that Lee is bringing back from China a 2 million year old fossil of some kind of ape/man being he believes to be the missing link. It awakens on the train ride through Russia and goes on a killing spree. There are some interesting science vs. religion debates--made somewhat smugly, given that it's set in pre-Bolshevik Russia--and the creature's whole story just kept turning out to be more interesting each time something was learned. Loved it.

I think I'm going to try to stick to the theme all day today. Since the subset choice syncs with the theme day, and there are thousands of zombie films out there, I think I'll do only zombie films all day. Sort of like how I spend Easter.

Just sent off an email to some of the crew from Smash Cut letting them know the discussion thread is now open. Post away, folks.

Has anyone ever seen Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare? I just watched it last night, and I'm stunned. Imagine part "Spinal Tap", but with none of the band members in on the joke, part soft-core porn with big-haired groupies having sex with the band, part WWE match, part slasher movie (where the monsters are silly-looking hand puppets). If you don't mind being spoiled, the climactic battle between Thor (lead singer of the Tritons and overall champion for the forces of good) and Satan is on youtube. Though if you haven't seen it before, I highly recommend not watching the clip and experience it for the first time in the context of the movie.

Yes, but the thread is up now so I figured it's all open for discussion now seeing as how some of us have already watched the film. As well, seeing as how we have a bit of a unique opportunity this year to have one of those threads with actual people who worked on the film involved might be nice to take it now that Chad made the thread.
I did add in my email, though, that the main viewing is still the 19th.

Just finished a double feature of Madman and Friday the 13th.... the new Madman DVD from Code Red has some serious transfer issues, but I'm glad to finally own a copy of it, the fan made documentary on the extras was a nice bonus, I find it odd that the one guy owns so much Madman memorabilia, even getting custom made action figures and paintings done.
- Diary of the Dead
- Survival of the Dead
- The Video Dead
- Dead Snow
- Fido
Thanks to the postal service my Blu-ray copy of City of the Living Dead won't arrive until at least Tuesday.
Has anyone ever seen Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare

I've got 3 zombie films left that I could use for the challenge, the original Night of the Living Dead, the original Dawn of the Dead, and of course, who can forget, Shaun of the Dead.

This morning I watched "War of the Colossal Beast" which begs the question: Why has "The Amazing Colossal Man" not been released on DVD? It's even given a product placement promotion in "Earth vs. the Spider" which is on the same DVD as "War...". It seems a shame that the sub-par sequel is on DVD while the original languishes in a vault somewhere.
