I bought a Blu-Ray copy to replace my DVD at Weekend Of Horrors a handful of months ago. I'll have to break open the seal sometime during this challenge and watch it

30 Days Of Night: Dark Days was so much better than I thought it would be. Props to everyone involved for keeping that completely pitch black tone.

Just finished Penny Dreadful (from the After Dark Horrorfest line). It's a variation on the classic psychotic hitchhiker story, where Penny and her therapist are stalked by a guy in the mountains. The movie never bothers to be more complicated than that, and the majority of the film takes place in the car which is quickly trapped between two trees (somehow). The segments of the killer toying with Penny are genuinely creepy, but the rest of the film is pretty weak. It clocks in at just around 90 minutes...which is probably 20 minutes longer than it needed to be.

I just watched 'IT'(1990) tonight on vhs to view the original version of the film over the lousy cut and cropped dvd release. I remember the film scaring the hell out of me when it first aired. Of course it's not 'that' scary today, but is still a pretty good film and still has some creepy moments in it, along with some cheesy bits as well.

I'm also slowly reading the book and was at 400 pages when I left off a month or so ago. The book is 1000+ pages long, and it'll take me awhile until I finish it since I get caught up reading other stuff as well. It's a great book so far however and I could almost see it turned into a one or two season mini-series if they really wanted to flesh out the story onscreen. Of course not everything from the book would work onscreen and so some changes would be needed, since what works on the page may seem very corny and laughable onscreen.

The perfect example of this is in the two versions of The Shining.

Really loving Netflix streaming as of late for all the stuff that isn't on DVD. Two personal favorites, Blood and Lace and The Initiation of Sarah, were both recently added with gorgeous prints. I had only ever seen the former via shitty looking, slightly trimmed versions, so to see it undedited and looking terrific was a great surprise. The latter is the best of the Carrie rips and looked equally great. I actually like it more than the De Palma film. I also finally caught up with Stuart Gordon's long OOP The Pit and the Pendulum on there, as well as finished off the Curse series with Catacombs. I see that they have Spellcaster on there too, so I look forward to revisiting it soon.

watched DAYBREAKERS for the second time last night and enjoyed it a bit more this time around. not sure why exactly but i've come to like the film quite a bit.

Saw my first theatrical film of the month yesterday, Let Me In.

I'm fairly torn on it. If it wasn't a remake of the Earth's best film of 2008, Let the Right One In, I'd probably praise it as the best horror film of 2010, and a solid B+ or so overall. But compared to the original, it's weaker in several areas. It's a bit more rushed and graphic than the original, less of the great tension and mysterious storyline slowly building in the original. That was felt needed for American audiences I guess. But the acting is very strong. The two kids are almost as good as in the original, and the great Richard Jenkins is amazing as always. There is a sequence involving a car that is tense and very well shot. So I guess I give it a recommended, but it is definitely inferior to the original.

Just finished up Leviathan (1989) and while it owes its entire existence to The Thing it was a fun movie to watch and had some great FX. Ernie Hudson being gold as usual doesn't hurt a thing.

Edit to add: There are over a dozen mainstream ones that qualify, iirc, but I think the above is the only streaming one at Netflix.
