It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like the 6th Annual Holiday Challenge (11/22-1/1)

Just finished watching "The Apartment" (Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacClaine, and Fred MacMurray). While it's very obvious the entire film takes place over the Christmas Holiday it almost feels anti-holiday because of the somewhat dark central theme. It's amazing how smarmy and callous MacMurray comes across. His role can come as a shock to those who've only seen him in "My Three Sons" or the many Disney films in which he performed.

I would counter that THE APARTMENT is very much a holiday, particularly "New Year's Day" film. By the end of the film , the hero and the heroine have come to the realization that they must put their past behind them and start over, which is exactly what we do on New Year's Day when we make resolutions.

For some reason I've been in the Christmas spirit even after Christmas. I doubled my total from last year and keep on going.

Moving and the holidays made this challenge harder to do the further along into the month we got.

Well... I'm done with 57 total items. I'd add a couple more this last day but I've moved on to the TVonDVD challenge.
Thanks to "The Monkees" for running this! As usual, I've had fun and this one has been much more "laid back" than others. It's been a nice change of pace!
See you in the TVonDVD discussion thread!.

Managed to pick off Die Hard last night and am trying to finish Holiday Inn for today. Found a bunch of Kino shorts and TV episodes that I could use to pad the numbers (and get double credit for the TV), but I think I'd rather just watch my faves.

I couldn't really get into it this year, but still finished with 60.

My paltry list reflects my entire holiday season. A decent chunk of what I saw was involuntary (sitcom reruns my wife was watching) and a few of the titles I chose to watch were from the "set during the season" category. On the plus side, I finally saw Elf, Fred Claus and Scrooged and can now participate in conversations about all three.

Hey everyone! I'm glad everyone had a good time with this challenge! Now that it's over, please have your lists completed (and NUMBERED!) by Saturday January 8, 2011 so I can then begin working on the results list. Thanks!!

Great close to the challenge: I slipped in It's a Wonderful Life and Love Actually (finally a first-time viewing) just before the deadline.
This is my first year participating in the challenges, and though I haven't posted great numbers, I've enjoyed the chance to get certain titles off my unwatched pile. Thanks to The Monkees for running this one.

I think my favorite new Christmas episode this season goes to American Dad "For Whom the Sleigh Bells Toll". The Gun battle with the Smiths fighting off Santa and Elves was classic tv.
