That is the set I got. I bought it 3 years ago because someone mentioned it in the challenge. Never got around to watching it. So far, I've only watched The Hand and Deadly Friend because I got motivated to start watching the stuff I've never watched and determine whether to keep or get rid of it. Getting married and combining living spaces with my wife put a need to evaluate my collection space. Well worth it, though.

I wouldn't count the Harry Potter movies, but someone else might have a different opinion.

Weird part is, I guess...people bag on Scars for being too violent/gory etc. With their first Frankenstein movie, Hammer was made FAMOUS for gore! So the idea that gore was somehow anti-Hammer seemed odd to me...though I admit Scars is OTT there.
If Scars wasn't SO DAMN CHEAP, from the awful bats to the flat as hell sets and backdrops, I'd really think it was...good (ok..some of the acting is bad too but Jenny Hanley is easy on the eyes). I'd love some Hammer blus, I have not imported any, but I can only imagine how bad Scars would look in high resolution!!!
And while Satanic Rites is very bad...I am a staunch defender of Dracula A.D. 1972. Dracula in swinging 70s England, with Stephanie Beachem (!), Caroline Munro, an awesome prologue, and a Triumph Stag? YES!
(I mean..if you can get over the painful party somewhere near the start).

Starry Eyes was 'ok,' not bad but doesn't seem worthy of some of the 'top horror of 2014' lists I saw it on. It depends too much on a flawed main character.
The Shrine has bad acting and questionable character motives but a nice finale end despite some 'rubber mask' quality effects - probably not worth sitting through. The Editor counts for today's theme? Ok, I'm in.

The Universal Monster films are primarily the ones I cut my teeth on as a youth. I've always loved the series - all of them. Dracula pretty much remains my favorite, the scene when Renfield comes out of the ships' hold being a favorite (that laugh still creeps me out after decades of repeat viewings). The Wolf Man, The Mummy, and The Invisible Man also rank high. While I *do* like Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein they never delivered the "chill factor" those others have for me over the years. Those two are more SF than horror to me.
I'll have 15 or 16 before the night's over. I'm just a bit behind as my wife wanted to go to Big Lots for their 20% off sale today. That cost a film. It also didn't help that it's been a long week at work and I've fallen asleep on a couple necessitating a backtrack to finish. That's almost another full film I lost over the past few days.
Kids... my grandkids had the audacity to verbalize they thought the Three Stooges would be funnier in color! While laughing so hard they could barely talk! Big mistake to say such a thing in my presence! Same with yours - BW films are *more frightening* than color films. There's something about BW that adds a level of moodiness and dread to horror films that just can't be duplicated in color. Plus blood almost never looks "right" in color. Can't be messed up in BW as it's all in your head. To us kids in the 50s/60s those BW Universal films were incredibly frightning! Modern kids seemingly receive greater exposure to such "simple" frights as those presented in the early Universal series. To a degree they're more jaded in their approach to horror.

For today's theme I watched the 1960 Village of the Damned. When it was shown on TV on the local late show (back when Carson was the only talk show host and other channels showed old movies and Perry Mason reruns after the 11 o'clock news), the alien children's eyes scared the living bejeebers out of me.

I also enjoyed The Editor - it's an amped up hyper stylized giallo with meta awareness; sometimes over the top, occasionally poorly acted (maybe this was intentional, that inspector guy...), and some humor is hit/miss but overall fun. During the last half they calm down some with the kinetic gags and focus more on plot such as it is [I really liked the ending]. I usually find Paz to be a poor actress (she ruined Nurse) but Editor made good use of her limited abilities.

NOW WATCHING: The Woman Eater
A mad scientist captures women and feeds them to a flesh-eating tree, which in turn gives him a serum that helps bring the dead back to life.
Me and that tree have a lot in common.

In a desire to diversify my decades, I'm currently spinning Prom Night out of this cheapo collection, which I got just for Meridian (Sherilyn Fenn! ).

FINALLY finished watching Scream: The TV Series. For the most part, I enjoyed it. I was definitely expecting more of the main cast to get killed off along the way, but I guess they will save that for season 2.
Now, I am finally starting on Fear the Walking Dead. Almost done with the first episode and to this point, so far so good.

I'd previously seen random scenes of Dr. Giggles, and always enjoyed what I saw but never thought anything of having never seen the entire film. Well I'm currently watching it as I bought the Twisted Terror Collection for the challenge and let's just say the "birth" scene in this movie may be the most "WTF" moment of the challenge for me.

For today's theme, I chose the 1998 Godzilla, after seeing it listed on the link. The main reason I chose it was ease of access, as my ex girlfriend once gave it to me as a gift. While it's no Godzilla movie, if you ignore the name, and just take it as a mindless monster movie, it's actually not that bad.

Just out of curiosity, are the Harry Potter movies eligible for this challenge? They're not listed as horror on IMDB. I have nothing invested in this, since I have plenty to watch that is eligible, but I came across HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE (2005) in a box of things I taped off TV and I was just wondering.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I haven't posted in any of the horror movie challenge threads this year, but I've been really doing well and keeping up with it this year thanks to amazon streaming/netflix. It can be tough finding the films or the films that meet the daily goals/challenge requirements, but people's postings have been very helpful in finding stuff that works (also the suggestions). My biggest problem so far has been to match up some days, like today, with films I either own, can get from the library, or that are on one of the two streaming services I listed.
For instance, I'm having a terrible time today. So far the only one I've been able to match is X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes on Amazon, but I don't know if it's burn out or if I'm so keen on seeing it again as it's another American International Pictures film after seeing Burn, Witch, Burn. Yesterday was a Godsend for the challenge. I was able to ramp it up and burn through a ton of writers' works. Started the day off with The Mist on Amazon and then didn't realize Matheson did Burn, Witch, Burn, but Amazon had that one too, so I watched it as well. Also, I saw Re-Animator again on Netflix.
Anybody think they could help with today's toughie?

I think there's some marketing or pop culture attempt to categorize Harry Potter as 'Halloween-ish' along the lines of witches and warlocks (I remember Simpsons parodying Potter in one Treehouse of Terror); I find that almost as puzzling as kids who dress up as Disney princesses and superheroes on Halloween. Whatever is fun then sure thing but in some ways Halloween is morphing more of a fantasy dress up than the ghouls/ghost stuff I grew up with (although the genuine horror stuff is still prominent enough).

The Carrier is on Youtube, everyone should see it at least once - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zv6acdaiYMA
The 2013 remake/sequel (?) to Patrick is listed on letterboxd as counting and on Amazon Prime - https://www.amazon.com/Patrick-Evil-...dp/B00JGDD6CQ/
Starry Eyes is streaming on Netflix; it's gotten a lot of praise and I think it's worth seeing.

Day 7's recape is up! A classic, a pair of unknown films that should stay unknown and a new indie foreign film that deserves some attention!
