My three favorite Halloween based movies not in the Halloween franchise are:
Trick 'r Treat (2007) - Not the David Carradine
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The Exorcist (1973)

Watched King Kong last night. From 1933. I thought that it was better than any of the Universal monster films of the same era.
I was happy that I was able to watch that last night.
I had seen it one night while channel surfing looking for something to watch. I loved it. Then went searching for the DVD.
It had amazed me how Kong was there squashing people and eating them. That is expected I guess these days in horror.
But back then in 1933, I didn't think that it was shown.

King Kong is a classic example of pre-code Hollywood, though it was easy to forget about it since the stronger footage was cut out of later prints of the movie (that later generations grew up on). The murder of the little girl in Frankenstein was another casualty of the code. Some other pre-code horror that have surprisingly strong content are: The Black Cat (the 1934 movie), Murders in the Zoo, The Mask of Fu Manchu, Island of Lost Souls, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931 version). Doctor X, and Freaks.
I may have to browse a list to jog my memory, since I feel I'm overlooking some obvious favorite movies set on Halloween. I think Nightmare Before Christmas will have to be one. It's not horror, but the question doesn't say it has to be ... but I love E.T. and has a memorable Halloween setting (E.T. trick-or-treating always make me )

I forgot about E.T. I love that movie, too. "Home, home" as he chases the guy in the Yoda costume gets me every time.

My three (though there are many more):
E.T. (1982)- Best trick or treating scene ever - "Home! Home! Home!"
Night Of The Demons (1988) - Fun and campy with disappearing lipstick!
Murder Party (2007) - Hilarious. One of the best horror comedies in my opinion (made with a zero budget)

Happy Halloween, y'all! As for my Top 3 (Horror) Halloween movies:
Night of The Demons
The Midnight Hour
Tales of Halloween (This just surpassed Trick R Treat for me)
All I got planned for tonight is Haunt on Shudder after the Trick/Treaters have all gone home and my list will come to an end. As for my annual compilation vids, I was planning the usual 3-minute video to go along with a 1-minute version for my IG. But I just fell in love with working on the 1-minute version (It also complimented my laid-back approach this year) And thanks to hbsvb for the song choice:
Have a good All Hallow's Eve, everyone! Now to work on list-finalizing and my Annual Awards.

[QUOTE=brainee;13632925]Are you familiar with pre-code Hollywood? Not just in horror, but numerous movies from the early 30's had startling content before the censorship production code starting cracking down on things (in the mid 30's). It wouldn't be until the late 50's when the "adultness" of mainstream movies got back to the level of pre-code Hollywood.
King Kong is a classic example of pre-code Hollywood, though it was easy to forget about it since the stronger footage was cut out of later prints of the movie (that later generations grew up on). The murder of the little girl in Frankenstein was another casualty of the code. Doctor X, and Freaks.
I haven't seen any of these that you have mentioned. Minus Frankenstein of course. I'll have to explore these titles further in the up coming months.
It would be too late to use them fir this years challenge. But to se them up for next years will be a good possibility.
Plus just watching them any old day would work too. Thanks.
I did order Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde as a blind buy yesterday. So I'll be experimenting with that when it shows up at my door.

It's my 10th challenge. Sure doesn't seem like it...
My first wasn't this one but the SF/Fantasy one that year. I enjoyed it so much I jumped in with both feet and participated in all of them for several years before narrowing things down a bit.
It's this one that almost turned my family against me... One year I got rather obsessed with getting as high a number as possible (was aiming for 200). I refused to do anything other than work, watch movies, and eat that month (and I ate while watching movies). I was so sleep deprived at the end it took me 2 months to catch up. I'll not be doing that again...

Happy Halloween to everyone. I'm happy to say that I'm officially fully theme compliant for the month. I'm unhappy to say that it came by watching House of 1000 Corpses. It was my second time watching it. At least I now know that my opinion hasn't changed.
I've been focusing on finishing up the subset films. Only two more to go. I started one not long ago, and it's also No. 100. There were definitely plenty of times that I didn't think I would make it this year. Relieved that I will be hitting that milestone once again even if it's basically by the skin of my teeth. After completing the subset, I'll probably try to complete a TV entry and go from there. I hope everyone is getting some good movies in today.

Had fun this year delving into the unknown. Thanks Chad for another awesome challenge. Just sucks that being Canadian cuts us out of the wicked prizes up for grabs. See everybody next year.

Just hit all my checks today as well. Watched each subset on the day, so that satisfies theme, finished the checklist, and hit 100 “pure” horror films; no counting of September viewings, television, documentaries, commentaries, or shorts.
Queuing up a couple comedy crossovers and the final bonus subset choice now.
Hope you all had a good Halloween. Rain, so no trick or treaters, which was good given my deadline rush here.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 15th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
Happy Halloween, folks.
Despite what my neglected list says and that I'll squeeze in a few more tonight, looks like I'll hit 2 of my 3 goals - 100 first time views, 100 BD/UHD viewings, but at least 10 shy of the 150 mark. Also completed themes.
It's underrated for sure. I plan on doing a back-to-back viewing of the two tonight.
Same.
Also looks as if Trailer Trauma 3 will continue to hold its spot as the reigning champ of trailer comps after catching Drive-In Delirium: Dead by Dawn. It's close, but no cigar.
EDIT: TT 5 just announced:
That's just the Hamilton prize packs, FYI. The Synapse, Vinegar Syndrome, and IB packs are open to everyone.
