OFFICIAL RULES
-Movies, TV shows/specials, Short Films & Cartoons Count
-The movie or TV show DOES NOT need to be holiday oriented. It could simply take place during the holiday season (i.e. Batman Returns, Gremlins, Die Hard, etc.)
-Although the movie doesn't have to take place during the holiday season, a MAJORITY of the film HAS to take place during the holiday season. No movies with just one scene during the holiday season. If you're not sure, ASK!
-Any holiday from Thanksgiving through New Years Day may count
-A film can only be viewed once, UNLESS you watch it and then watched it again with a commentary
-There is no global goal, shoot for a personal goal. Whatever you want your goal to be go for it. For returning participants maybe your goal should be to beat a previous year's goal.
-Again, like past years there will be a THREE Wild Card option to include movies or TV shows you might watch during the holiday season that is not holiday oriented. My family used to watch Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory every Christmas. So anything is allowed, up to 3.
-Specials such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, New Years Rockin' Eve, etc. can count, but you MUST watch the entire special in order to count it.
-PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE number your lists! If you do not number your list it will not count towards the challenge
-It doesn't matter how you see the film, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Laserdisc, Theatrical release, it can be counted. Just have fun.
-The challenge will begin at dusk on Saturday November 20, 2021 and will end at dawn on Saturday January 2, 2022

I am a Giveaway Monster and my hunger was not satiated with the Horror Movie Challenge. So I am going to be giving away prize packs to participants all Challenge long! They are mostly going to consist of MVD, although there will be stuff like an "exploitation" bundle, TV bundle, etc.
I will be choosing at random, although for that exploitation bundle, you have to "opt in" and tell me you'd like to be considered for it, because I know that isn't everyone's cup of tea.

That's right everyone, I am back! After a couple years break, I am excited to return as the host of the Holiday Challenge. I needed to come back to this, this challenge has always and will always be my baby. And with the full support of shadokitty, I have returned to the helm.

I know there are many who object to how early the holidays seem to start each year. But my Walmart has already had their trees out several days at least, so I've been wating for this thread to appear.

The Lowes by me had Halloween down to two 8 foot sections in the middle of September while having Christmas at around 10 with another 100' of fake trees set up

I don't have much in mind at this point. I'll do my annual Christmas Eve into Christmas morning marathon of A Christmas Carol adaptations, of course. I'm curious enough about the Home Alone reboot that I'll check it out. I hated the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special and Noel, so Disney+ is down to their last strike with me for holiday fare. Also, I've decided to make New Year's cards this year instead of my annual Christmas cards, so I think I might try to focus on finding some New Year's Eve-centric movies.

My Christmas Eve ritual is Scrooged followed by Christmas Vacation. I try to watch those on Christmas Eve.

I just saw that Rod Serling's A Carol for Another Christmas (1964) was added to HBO Max today. Never even heard of it, will definitely have to watch this.

Incidentally, I highly recommend Fred Guida's excellent book, "A Christmas Carol" and Its Adaptations: A Critical Examination of Dickens' Story and Its Productions on Screen and Television. It is a comprehensive index of all manner of adaptations.

I second Travis's suggestion of "genres", and I like his "protagonist" suggestions too. Also Hanukkah and Kwanzaa (never watched a film based on that, so it's interesting)
What about "from 4 different countries"?
I like the idea of networks - Netflix, Hallmark, GAC, Hulu, Amazon Original, but I get that we don't want to force people to spend money to subscribe to things. Perhaps a category that's more broad like "Watch a holiday movie on 5 different networks" so people can use whatever they subscribe to or just channels on cable.
By the way, I watched LOVE HARD on Netflix last night and gave it a 10/10. Definitely recommended for your holiday viewing (if you like romantic comedies).

I agree with the idea of not specifying certain services or networks. E.g., there could be a category of made-for-TV movie rather than specifically Hallmark. I watch Hallmark myself, but Lifetime, GAC, etc. are along the same lines and would fit the check JJ’s as well.

Just ignore the checklist and you'll be OK... I've stopped using them with the challenges. I'd rather just watch what I want as I enjoy myself more when I'm not worrying about checking things off. The plus is I'm not watching anything I just plain dislike for a checklist item.
