Chiming in on the Addams Family / Munsters comparison. While I like The Munsters too, The Addams Family has always been my favorite as well.

Moving on to Robowar (1988). Man this movie is gold. I’m pretty sure with this one, my checklist will be mostly completed.
Does anyone have the Theme Night fulfilling of the checklist?

Ill cast a vote for The Munsters. I grew up watching it. Shocking to say, but I never watched Adams Family. Have not watched it to this day. I guess I need to give it a go.

Love The Addam's Family. One of the first books I remember looking through as a young kid and "understanding" was a collection of Charles Addams comics my parents had. The Munsters were always off-putting to me. I think it was because I loved the Boris Karloff Frankenstein monster so much, even as I kid, I didn't want to see him acting like a corny idiot.

The Addams Family all the way. I have some good memories of catching the reruns in syndication and playing the card game at my grandparents' house.
Caught V/H/S/99 and while not the best entry, it's easily the most fun I've had with the series. Some entries are hit or miss, and I wasn't big on the wraparound segments. There's also no lost tapes, so really no narrative cohesion to tie it to the others. Overall I enjoyed it, and really got a nostalgia kick out of the Double Dare / Legends of the Hidden Temple mashup with a twist. After Deadstream that's two for two for Joseph and Vanessa Winter-directed found footage films.

Almost forgot the mid-week reminder. And another reminder this will run through Monday night 10/24.
Sunday Night Trivia Question III: Season of the Worst
A celebration of the seasonal disasters.
In 1978 John Carpenter and the late great Debra Hill brought us the immortal classic Halloween. While not the first slasher, it was a $325,000 film that went on to become the most successful independent film of the time that immortalized the death mask of Captain Kirk and kickstarted the career of Jamie Lee Curtis. Over the course of 44 years, for better or worse, it has spawned 12 sequels, given us five timelines, inspired countless imitators and recently the "final" entry.
In 1983 an Atari 2600 video game was unleashed from our video companies 2022 theme entry Wizard Video. It was deemed controversial for its violent content and subject matter. Many retailers refused to carry it.
In the book Taking Shape II: The Lost Halloween Sequels by Dustin McNeill and Travis Mullins, it showcases 24 Halloween sequels that never came to fruition. These include...
Speaking of bad ideas, the general consensus is quite a few of the not-so-great sequels that did come to fruition have been in the last 20 years, which brings me to my question...
What are your 3 worst Halloween films?

Contest is open until next Sunday's trivia question begins.
Good luck!
Disclaimer: This post is not insinuating Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a bad film. In fact, it's my personal favorite of the sequels. The title is simply a play on words, and the badly photoshopped poster just happens to feature said film because, well, it simply worked out that way. We all know Tom Atkins would never let that happen.

- A Frankenstein-esque sequel where Michael is brought back to life with lightning with no memory and no violent impulses, later to be hunted by Haddonfield residents and protected by Dr. Loomis
- A first draft of Curse with Tommy Doyle as the next Loomis teaming up with a third Strode sister using virtual reality to witness the original curse of the Myers family during Samhain. Naturally the Judith Myers grave acts as a portal to the underworld.
- Michael Myers in Space ...pitched by John Carpenter
- A Quentin Tarantino sequel featuring Michael and the man in black taking a road trip together while killing everyone in site Natural Born Killers style
- A direct-to-video sequel to Curse with a murder mystery featuring a magician/serial killer

I might watch the Joe Bob Halloween Hootenanny tonight, depending on what the movies are. Anyone have a clue what they'll be? If they've been dropping hints, I haven't seen them.
Yesterday's vampire watches were interesting. In order of how much I enjoyed them, I saw
1) Shadow of the Vampire (2000) - William DaFoe's Nosferatu was a great performance
2) Stake Lake (2010) - Great acting and lots of found family feels in this post-apocalyptic tale.
3) Mark of the Vampire (1935) - enjoyed the vintage vibe and Lugosi
4) Kiss of the Vampire (1963) - I normally enjoy Hammer, but this was was fairly weak

I don’t know what they are, but I’m torn. Joe Bob, or a planned watch party with a Ju-On, Ringu double feature with some friends.

Halloweens Ends was ridiculous and I think I loved it. You just gotta go in with bottom of the barrel expectations, maybe even with a chip on your shoulder for having to sit thru Halloween Kills.

Spoilering, just in case anyone likes to go into the Joe Bob specials completely blind:
I re-watched SotV earlier this month -- it was one of my movie club's picks for this month, along with Jennifer's Body -- and wholeheartedly agree; WD was fantastic. Nicolas Cage was originally going to play Max Schreck and I'm sure it would have still been a bonkers performance, but I just can't imagine Cage disappearing into the role like Dafoe did. (I also used SotV in the tropes section of the checklist for "characters ignoring all the red flags" because, holy cow, were there a lot of characters who said, "yeah, he's probably an actual vampire, but let's go to this isolated island location with him anyway!" )

Though I'm torn because Slash/Back is out today, an indigenous-girls-in-the-Arctic-fight-aliens movie, and I'm excited to see it. Such a unique setting for a horror film and I haven't done much with aliens this challenge. But it'll still be there tomorrow.
Yes, on the ignore the red flags thing with SoTV! I'm glad it isn't Nicolas Cage. Though I like him in most horror movies, his maniacal act is pretty much always the same and DaFoe was refreshing.

I'm actually contemplating skipping those JB movies in the hope of closing gaps in the last of the checklist. Those movies sure eat up time with the guests and commentary, and I may just catch them after the challenge. I'll see how I feel after visiting my mom this evening.

I watched the first Joe Bob, which was Elvira's Haunted Hills. I think I'll save the second for tomorrow and I'm gonna watch Slash/Back. But it was fun seeing Cassandra Peterson on the show.
(I'm assuming this is no longer spoiler info since it has now aired.)

I loved Slash/Back (2022).. I think it just came out today on VOD. My review:
4/5 stars. I loved this. The Artic scenery was spectacular and I liked the "girl gang" vibe of this. It's similar to Stand By Me only it's young teen girls, not boys, and, well, they're Inuit. The horror aspects are mild, but the alien creature effects are very well done and creepy. It has hints of Invasion of the Body Snatchers as well as The Thing, which they mention in the film. This is one to share with older kids and non-horror fans.
If you're looking for something hardcore, you'll be disappointed. But if you're up something more character driven and in a unique setting, it's worth a watch.

We should have saved this slate of subset films for our 30th year, as XXX would have described this sex-centric slate pretty well.

Got most of the harder to hit parts of the checklist knocked out and started to think of my foreign language horror flicks to watch. The first four that came to mind are all in Spanish...not sure what that says about my viewing patterns over the last few years.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 18th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)
Coincidentally I just watched two 'horror' films in a row where the unexpected 'twist' was that there was no killer just a strange series of accidents followed by paranoia and more accidents. I thought it was fun with the airplane premonition film (even that has a sort of adversary) and that horror comedy everyone knows but 'no actual killer' was not a subgenre I ever wanted.
