Welcome to the OHMC19 pre-horror challenge thread for 2023. The sole purpose is to hopefully get the optional lists done early and without distractions. Even when the main thread goes up this one continues ...until we're done.
We configure them in the following order - Theme Nights ---> 31 Film Subset ---> The Checklist. It's done that particular way due to the first two syncing up with one another, and so you can have some time to plan ahead accordingly.
In case you missed the announcement last year in the planning thread from June 2022, some changes have been made to expedite the pre-challenge process. It was a rousing success, so it continues. The theme nights list will be posted soon and subset volunteering is ongoing.

Here's the 2023 Subset List in no particular order (aside from a few assigned dates) with the physical media and streaming guide included. The theme/subset hybrid table with all the bells and whistles is coming sooner than later, and same goes for the subset threads. Until that time the current status of the assigned dates can be found on post #27 of the pre-challenge thread.
As always, an eclectic mix with a few classics, modern, some future OHMC "favorites", some gory, psychotronic, Gothic, obscure, Some Romero, Argento, Deodato and Hooper, erotic, family-friendly, a film with zero dialogue that's not a silent, avant-garde, no less than 3 video nasties, 3 Halloween-themed and 2 Category III flicks, cheeseball, A Canadian kid whose hair won't stop growing and sees dead people, a film with "blood, sweat, piss, cum, spit and vomit dripping in every frame" (that's a quote). Some more anaglyph 3-D, foreign, dueling Serbian serial killers, a film that's still playing theaters and an "exercise video" with leg warmers, boobs and zombies. And Elvira! Quite a few have recent first-time Blu-ray and UHD releases (17. A new record) and upgrades, plus an explosion of 80s films that's more than twice that of last year (17. A new record. Maybe).

THEME NIGHTS CONSTRUCTION
Here's the new theme suggestions compiled together. We need to whittle them down to an acceptable number and decide which of the old themes make a triumphant return. Once again, there's quite a few anniversary, location-based suggestions, and the inevitable leftovers. Don't forget the ones with fewer titles (let's say under 50, with exceptions) will need to be paired up with one or two other themes.
If you have any new theme suggestions let me know and I'll add them here. Include a link to go with it if you can.
Themes with multiple links are bound to have duplicate titles; omitting them is just too time-consuming. "Total titles" aren't always accurate.
Theme names are subject to change. In other words, the titles and cheesy taglines will come later for some, so please don't judge them based solely on their potentially boring titles here.

There's no major changes, updates or even a poll this year. I guess the only thing of note is we have a Friday the 13th this challenge.
I'll try to have the themes list up by no later than 7/13, which is last year's date posted. As you can see from post 6, there's quite a few new theme suggestions this year, and there's still a few more yet to be posted. I just want to make sure all the links are active working links that are the best they can be before the subset picking begins. Once again I'll try to send reminder PMs to all the subset volunteers once it's up.

I'm in for a subset pick! Looking forward to another year. This year I've been working steadily on the They Shoot Zombies list. I try to do 1 movie from the list a day. I'm at 88% currently and expect to get to 99% (my goal--allowing myself 10 passes) by end of October, so I expect to the watching the last lot for the challenge.

Post 6 is not the actual list, although I'll reveal that it's definitely going to be on there. Since there's so many links I'll probably combine the studios with lesser titles into one list and throw in a random button for easier navigation. It was fun researching this, and a quite a few studios devoid of horror content went out over 100 years ago. There's also a few like Orion that I'm not sure about its status after Amazon acquired MGM, but it was defunct at one point so I'll keep it there regardless.

I love that TCM Underground might get some representation after its demise. BTW, its demise is even more perplexing when you look at the tcm schedule on friday nights and see that they still show two underground style films. This week its Hooper and Shaft.
Speaking of TCM... today they're showing a bunch of animal attack movies... but the biggest must dvr is RAZORBACK, You might want to grab it cause it'll be two checks definitely on the checklist.
