About twenty minutes into it, I tired of the constant music they had on the soundtrack, and was curious to see how it would play in actual silence. Boy, did that make a huge difference. I'm sure we've all heard the phrase "theatre of the mind", where while listening to a story you imagine what things looks like. Watching silent films in actual silence now creates "radio of the mind", where I'm imagining how things sound; the echoing of the court room, the clanking of the torture devices, ect. Even Harold Lloyd comedies I find completely engaging watching in dead silence. Having my brain engaged creatively immerses me into the films like never before. I'm a big fan of silent films now.

I'm just about done chapter 7 (of 10 total chapters). Though I'm mad I just got the only character killed who I wanted to survive
Spoiler:
RIP Abby (Ariel Winter) It's worse in that I think the game pulled a dirty trick. All the tutorials made it sound like you had until the end of the on-screen timer to make decisions. There was a sequence where she was supposed to fire the shotgun to survive. That's exactly what I did, but she still got killed (and the "choices" screen says Abby choose not to fire). Reading online comments, I'm not the only one to get burned by this. Apparently in some spots the on-screen timer is a lie ... and you have to make your decision immediately for it to work

I completed that game a ton of times and had a lot of fun with it. I had two parties where we got together and played together. Everyone had a character and made their own decisions. It was a blast. Took like 11 hours though.

Oh and Spiderbite, more photos please.

I fell behind this weekend since we went out of town to visit the House On The Rock. It’s a pretty weird place so it fit in with the month. I’ve been there a few times, but my girlfriend hadn’t. If you’re from the Midwest you may have heard of it, but otherwise probably not.
I managed to get the themes/subsets in though so the streak continues.

I got quite a few movies watched this weekend, including some that I've patiently been waiting to watch. Talk to Me, X, and The Exorcist: Believer were my must watch movies this weekend. I enjoyed all of them. I thought Talk to Me and X had interesting plots that I wasn't really expecting. I've avoided spoilers for both of the movies so I could enjoy them as first-time watches with no expectations. The Exorcist: Believer was good, but I like the original better. I think they're all worth watching if you haven't seen them before.

I may take them at minor odd angles to help minimize the reflection and lighting.

First up...in order of release appearance...all the way from Transylvania, 1931...Dracula!!!!

this year I’ll probably watch :

Halloween 3

Halloween
Halloween 2
H2O
Halloween
Halloween Kills
Halloween Ends

I really dislike 4,5,6 & Resurrection so I watch those every other year.
Going forward I’ll probably even skip the new trilogy.
I dislike the Zombie abominations even more.

I like that order. I like how you did the Laurie Strode movies all together. I do the same with the Nightmare On Elm Street series and usually watch it as a trilogy with the three Nancy Thompson movies all together.

But typically, I usually just watch the Halloween movies in order of release if I am going to watch them all within several days of each other.

I need to revisit the new trilogy and as a glutton for punishment, I own them all. I even own the Zombie releases both theatrical and unrated but those are tough to watch. I feel so dirty after watching any version of them.

I'm big on sound so that wouldn't help sadly. I wish my mind worked that way. That part left me as a kid

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 19th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

My day yesterday had some unexpected events, so I ended up postponing my planned Final Destination binge (three more to go) until next week. Instead, I kept the focus on the subset list. I knocked out five more. If you include the two theatrical movies I've seen, I'm at 29. Minimum subset completion is within reach!

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 19th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

I love that red Dracula poster! Any link/info on that one?

I never liked silent films myself. I think because I'm a writer, I'm always very attuned to the plot and dialogue and the silent films obviously have very little dialogue and simpler plots. I've had to watch quite a few for the They Shoot Zombies list and the 1000 Greatest Films lists I've been working on, so I've gotten more tolerant. They still sometimes bore me but the visuals can be so cool and gothic. I might try the turning-off-the-sound thing next time I need to watch.

I'm planning to watch Libido, The Perfume of the Lady in Black, and A Blade in the Dark (Bava) tonight along with Totally Killer, thanks to your recs. Looking most forward to that one.

Speaking of posters, I have the Deadly Prey posters in hand. The winner is in for some real doozies. Plus they donated three prints instead of two.
Thanks DPG.

Anyone seen No One Will Save You (2023) on HULU? I thought it was pretty good and I'm interested in comments. I went in completely cold and was pleasantly surprised.

Man, I love silent movies. That's how it was done back in the day. I'm planning on hitting up The Golem before the challenge is over.

The local art museum presents a few silents through the year. The curator's brother is famous for writing and playing the scores live. Whenever they play a silent, he will fly in and play it live for the audience. Really cool stuff.

If anyone here has Game Pass, one of the perks this month is a free digital copy of Texas Chainsaw.

I just hit the 1/4 mark at only a little over a week, with The Giant Gila Monster on YouTube. And as a shout out to Goldenwheels, while searching for some DVDs a couple weeks ago, I grabbed up a 10 movie Mill Creek set of Fright Films. And it arrived on Saturday.

I really liked it! i meant to rec it on here and forgot. There are some stunning visuals and the alien effects are good. 7.5/10 for me. But I like alien-themed horror and there isn't enough of it.

I don't really like 4-6 and Resurrection either but decided this was the year for me to watch them. I don't include h20 among the rest of the Laurie Stroude movies as it not connected to the rest of her movies in the series. I can't say I like the first Rob Zombie Halloween but his sequel is really a benchmark in brutality for the series.

Thanks so much for calling out The Blackcoat's Daughter. I'd never heard of it, but watched it this afternoon based on your post and thought it was superb. The payoff matched the mystery.

We started watching From and it's really good so far. Very intriguing, kinda a horror version of Lost. Hopefully it has a more satisfying ending.

It was a night 1 watch for me in the challenge. What I wrote in my list post:

The set-up isn't particularly new (a mostly dialog-free alien home invasion reminiscent of the classic Twilight Zone "The Invaders"). But I liked the sneaky emotional weight of the main character's back story, and how it ultimately tied in with the alien invasion. ***1/2
That's out of 5 stars, so I liked it too!
