For those looking for a quality blu ray of today's theme movie Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923) I can reocommend the Kino Blu Ray. Picture and sound are excellent. There are a number of special features and a very good commentary track.

Good to hear! I just bought the Kino BD during their Fall sale and am eager to watch it this evening.

I had a first time watch I really enjoyed last night -- THE LORDS OF SALEM (2012). Based on the grimy poster, and the fact that it's a Rob Zombie film, I had low expectations. It's on the They Shoot Zombies list, which I'm close to completing, and it has a "sleeping nude" scene for last night's theme so I watched it. I loved it! Totally unexpected. I loved the Salem setting, the historical witch cult vs modern times, the weird music, and all the f'ed up religious imagery (like the last 'Madonna' image). I love religious horror, but it's hard to find stuff that's not the same-old exorcism/demon stuff or evil nuns. This film was unique and much appreciated!
ETA: I forgot to mention the cast. Loved Dee Wallace, Meg Foster, and Bruce Davison in this.

I have a busy night planned -- 4 movies for the chronological, plus I'd hoped to watch WICKER MAN in 4K as well as TORSO for 1973. But the Wicker Man 4K disc from Best Buy is shipping TODAY so I don't have it in my hands yet. Maybe I'll be able to work it in later this month. Missed it by THAT much!

Hey everyone. My subset pick was "Come True" and I was a little late in posting my take on it, so for anyone who's interested, it's there now. I like to make sure I post my thoughts on any of my subset picks and I saw that there were some mixed feelings, so I just wanted to express a different take on the movie than anyone else had. Hope everyone is enjoying their October!

Sitting down to watch La Tour (Lockdown Tower) which seems to be new on Shudder. Starting really strong and reminds me of The Horde which is also French.

I haven't watched any of the Creepshow TV show on AMC+/Shudder yet but decided to check out the first episode tonight. Despite a weak first half, the second half story called The House Of The Head is one of the better shorts I have seen in a while. And probably one of the creepiest things I have watched all month. Well done!

I used to think that Terror at Tenkiller is one of the worst horror/slasher films of all time. After watching the Vinegar Syndrome blu ray i don't think its one of the worst. Its still a bad movie, but its not Howling 7 bad, lol

Saw Friday The 13th (1980) at the theatre last night, a good number of people turned out. Time has been great to that movie, which is now classical in terms of its cinema style and pacing. It's fascinating to just watch the background, looking at the familiar camp bunks, or magazine rack in the store, or gas pumps, or vehicles, or the diner counter equipment... 43 years ago, all this stuff was mundane and unnoticeable, but now it is a treasure trove of historical information. That's the glory of filming in real locations instead of sets. You're really capturing a time period for future generations.
The version re-released to theatre is (not surprising, I guess) the original theatrical version, so the Kevin Bacon kill doesn't look at all like the one I'm used to seeing on DVD all these years. At least they still keep in the hilarious shot of Kevin Bacon's pathetic diving.

I saw it earlier in the year when it came out, and despite its sci-fi premise, the way things played out made puts it firmly in the horror camp for me. Some psychedelic-like sequences best watched in a dark room. It's a wild movie, especially if you're watching the Unrated version.
I bought the Unrated 4K UHD a while back and hope to re-visit the film during the Challenge.

First off, in case someone here doesn't know, the Criterion flash sale is on at Criterion. I ordered the new release of Freaks. One of my most frequently used DVDs will now be retired.
I watched Goodbye 20th Century last night. Really weird film. Vinegar Syndrome sure made it look great.
While it's not as nice as those Universal prints, I did want to show something I'm not sure if I've shared before. A few years ago, Troma was a sponsor for the challenge, and I won a Blu-ray of Poultrygeist that came with an autographed poster. Well, the poster didn't wind up on eBay. It is featured prominently in my living room, right next to a few friends.

I did all 4 of the theme movies yesterday and watched half of Lockdown Tower. I think I'm all horrored out!
54 titles as of October 15th. Not too bad, as I feel I'm on track to hit my goal.

I wish The Others was released already. I'll have to wait for the B&N Criterion sale for that one.

I'm a little behind the curve to being able to hit 100 this month, but not as much as most years. I just hit the half century mark right now. Hoping to be able to make up for lost ground. Even though I work from home anyway, due to circumstances beyond my control, I'm kind of in limbo. Hoping to use my forced time off the next few days to catch up.

Finally got a chance to watch The Medium (2021) this morning.
Considering that Director/Writer Bangjong Pisanthanakun (Shutter) & Director/Writer Na Hong-jin (The Wailing/The Chaser/Yellow Sea) were behind this film, it should have been ten-thousand times better than the end result.
The film is anchored by gorgeous cinematography in addition to a wonderful performance from Sawanee Utoomma but it's overly-long and delves into a disappointing amount of genre tropes.
I also don't feel that the film needed to be shot in Mockumentary/Found Footage style. Probably one of the least convincing films I've ever seen within the genre.

Finished up Xtro 3: Watch the Skies (1995).
I realize this film has very little connection to the previous films but it was a rough 97-minutes, outside a few instances of enjoyable FX work.

New show times at the drive-in on Tuesdays. Starting Friday, we've got another horror double feature: Saw X and When Evil Lurks.
I've never been much of a Saw fan but have seen a few, only the first in theaters. I won't mind seeing it. I've heard good things about When Evil Lurks. It will be my first time watching a subtitled film at the drive-in. Fingers crossed that things display correctly and that I'm able to nab a good parking spot whenever I go. It seems like those things will be even more important when you're going to have subtitles to read. I was thinking about trying to take some time off next week. Maybe I could go on Tuesday when it's only $5 a car and not as likely to be busy.

Every Holiday Season for the last few years I've put together a collection of old cartoons, movie trailers, music videos, commercials and more and labeled it the Merry-Thon.
And now, because there's no tradition like a new tradition, there's one for Halloween. 7 hours of spooktacular treats await in the Scare-a-thon!
Note: This one's probably not for the WEE ones. Due to some of the clips, more like PG-13.
Happy Halloween!
