I've gotten to the point where I only watch horror movies in October unless there's something new at the theater, which I'll see. But I never watch stuff I've seen before at any other point unless I get an itch.

I know we have alot of type A folks in this group and probably like me, plan out your watches for the month. I would be curious what people are planning to watch week 1.
Ill start. im excluding the subset picks since thats a given.
sharknado (never seen it, lol), big shark (2023), crocodile (hooper film) , barracuda 1978, adam chaplin, the possession of joel delaney, jennifer 1978, maniac 1934, the bat whispers 1930, pyro--thing without a face, calamity of snakes, exorcisms daughter, nightwatch 1994, Fresh, butterfly kisses.
those are just some highlights of things that probably dont get alot of attention.

I over plan and never get to at least a third of what I expect to. I have a lot less free time than I think I do.
I'm going to start with some of the sequels I missed recently - Scream VI, Evil Dead Rise, The Craft: Legacy, and some things that have caught my eye in recent years and I haven't managed to get to them during the challenges - Rent-a-Pal, The Girl with All the Gifts, Come to Daddy, Attack of the Killer Donuts, The Lodge, The Owners, Zombie Tidal Wave. Going to make a dent in the checklist with older things I still haven't seen - Diabolique, House of the Long Shadows, The Man with Nine Lives. Then maybe finally finish some of the series I started and largely ignored - Wrong Turn, Leprechaun. The rest of the month will be determined by who's watching with me as the husband dislikes anything psychological or atmospheric and the kids have picky tastes.

I never plan too much on advance. The one thing I have been doing in advance this year is backing up all my challenge eligible titles onto my Plex account. Aside from a couple stragglers and any new additions, mission accomplished. 
I'm going to try to make an early push on the subset films. I think I say that every year, though, and get distracted. I do plan to finally watch Terrifier 2. I recently purchased Sole Survivor so am planning to watch with a Final Destination film. This is also the month that I hello justify my Vinegar Syndrome subscription. Killing of a Sacred Deer is also on my short list. How many of those will be watched in the first few days will all depend on my mood. I'm super ready, though!

I've made a list of 56 movies in my collection, old & new, to pull from as well anything I've got in my Netflix/Prime/Youtube watchlists. On top of that I'll be watching stuff like Castlevania: Nocturne, Billy & Mandy's Jacked Up Halloween, and The Day the Earth Got Really Screwed Up (Angry Beavers). If I'm really stumped I'll check the theme night and possible use that to find something suitable.

I have a Letterboxd list of movies I want to watch this challenge, knowing full well that I won't get to a lot of them and will probably get distracted by other, shiny things! The only movies I definitely want to get to during the first week are Malignant,Mako: The Jaws of Death, The Black Sleep, and The Brood. I try to get in a lot of films at the beginning of the month cause I tend make a lot of plans with friends and family during October.

I have all of the movies that I intend to watch for the challenge selected before the challenge starts. This year I'm looking at 120, which isn't very realistic. I have been able to do 100 regularly but I get burned out near the end of the challenge. As far as the first week I won't decide in advance except for theme day movies. My wife watches with me a lot these days so she has a great impact on what I watch each day. I've picked out 90+ of the movies I'll watch. I'll decide on the rest when the checklist gets finalized.

I got all my movies pulled and ready to watch. I'm also in the habit of holding onto all the new horror movies I buy and saving them for the challenge. I'm going to start with "The Barn" and "The Barn II". I saw the first one a few challenges back and liked it enough to grab the second one (which I haven't seen). Others for week one include "Massacre At Central High", "Blades", "The Blob", "Creature From Black Lake" and "Soul Collector". And since there's a Friday on the 13th this month I'll be watching a few from that franchise.

I don't remember the list off of the top of my head, but a friend on Discord has watch parties planned a few days every week, so I will be watching those with a few friends. Something nice about being social while you are watching horror movies.
Her birthday is also Halloween, and she has Halloween 2, the original planned that night. We watched the first one last year.

I sat down last night and tracked everything down in DVDpedia. Every year I tend to get worse with the organization, and waiting for the last minute. I jumped into the Arthouse Challenge this year, and It's really put me behind.
I've been feeling uninspired on Shudder lately, and would welcome any streaming recommendations.

I only plan what to watch for the theme nights so usually I have a list of at least two movies that fit the theme so I know what I "have" to watch. Then, I just watch whatever else I'm in the mood for that day. It helps me to plan a little because there's so much to watch that I have a hard time picking if I just scroll through the different streaming services or look in my collection. I've started adding movies I want to watch to "my list" on each streaming service so I don't have to go through all of the movies to find what I know I want to watch.

I don't plan specific watches at all. I tend to keep all newly purchased horror titles in a group on the unwatched shelf and save them for October - unless they also fit in another challenge. I'll go through all purchases still on the unwatched shelf and pull the horror titles (seems that I miss a couple almost every year) to put in a single location to make them "easy" to locate. At that point it's just picking what I'm in the mood for on any given day.
This year will be a bit different as my 2 oldest granddaughters (12yo & 16yo) have asked if they can come over and watch horror movies with me (they know about this challenge and that I participate) - of course they can, any time! They've requested a few things, mainly the classic Universal Horror stuff (and I'm quite OK with those as they're favorites) though I've informed them that, generally, I'll pick the titles and they watch them. My daughter, their mom, is a Halloween baby - we used to decorate the entire house (don't much any more - big hassle) and, when a kid, thought everyone was celebrating her birthday on Halloween!

Every year my planning goes something like this:
Spend August and early September working on pre-planning ~100 titles with an emphasis on total theme compliance and hitting checklist Bingo as early as possible. Get all my horror shelves organized and get my list thread post all templated-up and ready for thorough and timely updates. Also, buy way too many new titles in all the various horror sales leading into and throughout the month.
Last two weeks of September decide that I’m nowhere near ready for October and give everything up and decide to just wing it with no checklist OCD or planning and just watch for fun this one year at least.
Then September 30th I backtrack to trying to do all of my initial plans, and do them extremely poorly with almost no reviews or content in my list. Just lots of binging and continued shopping for more media.
Teaser for late October plans: Buy Halloween candy on Halloween afternoon because we already ate everything we bought in August.
Rinse and repeat yearly.

Yeah, Walgreens had bags of the good candy for ~$1.40 a few weeks ago. I bought 8 bags and have opened only one. We're on track to start these kids on the long road to insulin resistance.

We don't buy candy because we don't get trick or treaters in my building. As for movies, I don't get too in the weeds with planning anything specific. I just have a list of movies that I want to watch on disc or streaming, e.g. Barbarian, Smile, Evil Dead Rise, Cobweb, The Meg 2, and Talk to Me, plus the movies I've saved on the DVR and in my unwatched pile.

I think this year may end up with a disproportionate number of rewatched. Want to go through Halloween, Chucky, Psycho, and Hellraiser 4ks for sure, hopefully catch up on my Vinegar Syndrome sub finally. I am not sure if I will be able to watch as many as past years, this year has been very overwhelming personally so either I will bury myself in movies or I won’t be able to concentrate. We’ll see in a few days.

Been in the same house for ~35 years and would normally get 2 or 3 trick or treaters (some years there were none). One of the few "heavy" years saw about 15. We stopped buying candy 3 or 4 years ago. The last year we handed out candy we had *2* show up early in the evening and no more. Had I known, those 2 kids would have made out like bandits.

Report back and let us know how Saw X is. I've got Saw X tickets for Monday afternoon but not sure I've ever seen any of the more recent Saw films past part 4 or 5 so while I'm glad X is apparently placed between Saw 1 and 2 I'm trying to decide if I should prioritize marathoning the Saw films first so I can fully appreciate the small easter eggs that might be in X for part 6, 7, or 8. It's hard to believe it's been about 20 years since (just) Saw (1).
