Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 19th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Wow, I can't believe it's nearly time. I am not at all ready personally. (I usually have a very organized watchlist, mostly because it's the only way I won't spend ungodly amounts of time debating what to watch every day!)

BUT I am nearly ready with the subset films. All uploaded (aside from maybe a few last-minute odds and ends), and most of them are QC'd. Still have to add subtitles and rename and put together the accompanying document.

Meanwhile, please PM me if you're interested in the link to the folder! (You can email me if you prefer, but I can't guarantee my spam filter won't get it.) I will most likely send the link out on Saturday, after I've got everything in order.

People can continue to hit me up for the link throughout the challenge, but you will got promptest service before we start.

My kids are getting older now (15 and 11) so in the past we've enjoyed chasing them around for Trick R Treating it's getting to the point they need more independence so I'm looking forward to hosting more candy giving shenanigans and less running around. Fortunately in my neighborhood we still get quite a few participants so Halloween is far from dead.

Same for me. The last time I had a trick or treater at my house was 4 years ago I believe, and it was only 1 kid. Years before that, there wouldn't be more than around 5 kids. I don't remember exactly when I stopped getting a decent amount of kids trick or treating, but it was probably over 15 years ago.

The neighborhood is skewing older, so there aren't too many kids running around. We did get hit pretty hard last year, as the neighborhood is 'safe looking' so we get plenty of soccer moms and their 2.5 kids.

I"m stoked to start tonight with The Witch (2015), and then move on to Diabolique (1955). I hope everyone has a good start and keep those suggestions coming.

Here's The Checklist 2023 Edition as promised. It's still found in all the usual spots - on the third post of this thread, the second post of the list thread and post #78. That last one is posted purely due to habit, and I honestly can't remember the reasoning for it. All the links are in the wiki. Let me know if there's any dead or incorrect links.

The theme/subset table is also on its way. As has been the case for the last few years I'm dragging behind so it *might* be a last-minute endeavor.

Chad or anyone: Forgive me for getting confused everytime I dive into the planning thread, but do we at least have the theme/subset film for the 1st finalized? I tend to post about/promote/encourage participation in a couple other forums and want to give people the right film for today/tomorrow.

I just equate most of the stuff from VS to be dramatically over-hyped in every possible way. I'm actually really looking forward to it as I read one of your comments over at the other site and I'm open to that interpretation.

This is your safe space....

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 19th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (10/1 - 10/31)

Terror at Tenkiller has been out for years from VCI, no shade to VS, it's always been a bad movie. I watched it during the 2015 challenge and almost gave it my lowest score but I gave it a half star pitty point for being local to me.

Edit (that review):

"I don't know what I really expected considering it was on the same disc as The Last Slumber Party. But really the main reason I watched this was that it was shot entirely in my home state of Oklahoma. The movie was boring, unoriginal, badly acted and badly lit. A shoe in for worst film of the challenge but it did get half a point for being local and for scenes filmed in the school my daughter will eventually go to.

(1.5 out of 5)"

I will say though I am kind of curious to listen to that VS commentary and with VS doing the transfer it probably is a lot easier to see now.

Edit 2: Currently planning my final yard maintenance of the year. Gotta finish before dusk on the 30th!

I finally decided to to look up Terror at Tenkiller to see if I had watched it or not. I have, but it was almost six years ago. Reading the description and a few reviews brought back some memories of it. I guess it's about time to watch it again (even though I'm sure it'll be really familiar to me as I watch it). I was planning on re-watching more movies than usual this OHMC anyway.

I've been casually trying to figure out the Saw chronology while trying to avoid too many spoilers but there's a surprising amount of stretch and world building for films that flirt with being 'torture porn' pulp.
Saw X is from the writers of Jigsaw and Spiral (Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger) and directed by Kevin Greutert (who directed Saw 3D [2010] and Saw VI) so not clear on how they will interweave different films into Saw X or if it will just be retro stuff.

Yeah, everything is finalized.

And FYI, the themes list is currently the only list in the correct order as far as assigned dates go. I plan on updating the subset list w/ physical media & streaming guide tonight.

I hear the UHD commentary's not bad, so there's that. I'm having a potential 3 hour torture session with a Tenkiller / Night Screams double feature that day.

Also question. What's the preferred cut on the latter - pre-release or theatrical? It's the theatrical cut that has added Graduation Day footage, right? I wasn't sure if including inserts from what I assume is a better movie would help or hurt it.

John Kramer died in Saw III, so that makes sense.

It looks like I'll finally finish off The Walking Dead just in time to start the challenge. These last few seasons were a struggle.

Last good night of sleep. I'm so behind. Just did two back to back 16 hour shifts. I haven't decorated out front yet, haven't closed my pool, need to paint a wall... this is gonna be a rough start.

The inserts only add up to like two or three minutes of runtime so it's not a deal breaker either way. The pre-release version is what the filmmakers intended but I would still suggest the UHD(theatrical) if you have the VS release.

It looks like I'll finally finish off The Walking Dead just in time to start the challenge. These last few seasons were a struggle.
Ugh might as well call it Saw 1.5. Is there honestly a point to make Saw X in between the first two movies other than just to bring John Kramer back? Not even excited for this one anymore.

So Walking Dead not really worth getting back into and finishing? I left as they killed big red and Glenn.

There were a couple of seasons after the GlennAbraham deaths that were almost unwatchable. Seasons 10 & 11 were decent, but nothing near the first few seasons. Negan I never thought would grow on me, but he has...

Alright, the subset list w/ the guides now has the assigned dates in the correct order, just like the themes list.

The all-in-one theme/subset table will be posted tomorrow.

And some announcements, too.

Turbine is releasing a Pearl 4K steelbook in December. For now, it'll be the only way you can own it on 4K UHD.

Whoot! Let the games begin.
I have my list planned. My focus this year is on finishing the They Shoot Zombies list. I’m at 94% and have around 50 of the ones left slotted to fit the theme nights as best I could. And I plan to watch the subset films and a few more for checklist items. We’ll see how it goes.

I’m looking forward to finishing the TSZ list so I can just watch movies because I feel like it. Lol. But I have discovered some gems. And some movies I hated, but that’s how it goes.
