Are certain curse/offensive words automatically censored?

I made a post on Sunday night in the Ray Donovan thread.

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/11756905-post4.html

I typed word for word some dialogue in the episode that I thought was pretty funny. One word I typed from the dialogue was the F word (referencing gay people) After I clicked submit post, this is what I got:

Mickey: Conor?

Conor: Yes, Grandpa?

Mickey: Are you a ****?

Conor: I don't think so
The post was censored with stars. So I wanted to know if this board blocks out certain words from being posted regardless of it being a non-malicious post.

Not a lot. I know of a slur against black people is one of them (which is completely unfair). And of course, the word you tried to use (smoke 'em if you got 'em).

That is unfair to black people that they can't use that slur on this board, how do you expect them to take it back if they can't say it over and over again?

I seem to recall a lengthy discussion about this some time ago but the gist was that certain words are censored and there is no published list. The board software cannot discern the context so if the letters appear as per the list then they are starred out automagically as you have observed..

Occasionally folk try to defeat the censor which is seen as a very big no-no...

I noticed that some mods CAN use those words; the "F" word mentioned in the OP, for example. I can't remember where I saw it, but that one in particular was used (not in a derogatory way) by a mod, and I don't think it was censored. I just assumed it was blocked across the board.

I remember when all naughty words were censored automatically here- they'd usually be replaced with "yaddayaddayadda". Let me just test the offending words here though- ****** faggot

Nope, you actually typed those asterisks.... it is all just in your head....

[Force] This isn't the censorship you are looking for... [/Force]

My blog in my signature is automatically sensored. Can any mod please help me out with that? I read the rules, and it's definitely not a competing site.

Thanks in advance.

Yep. You can bash the gays all you want but heaven forbid you're a racist against the black chaps. The people, not the assless pants.

To be fair, the rules say "signatures with links containing content deemed competitive with DVD Talk are not permitted," and the front page of your blog has a post actively encouraging people to stop posting at DVD Talk and instead post at a different forum. I don't think it's a particularly unfair interpretation to say that that is content competitive with DVD Talk.
