Format change?

What the heck happened in the last 90 mins?
I view the desktop site on my iPhone, because I don’t care for the mobile site.
Now when I click a new page. It’s zoomed in and to the right. When I zoom back out, I see that right side ad has gotten larger and the top dvd talk banner is different. Much smaller now.
The OHMC thread is basically unreadable.

Re: Format change?

I haven't used that layout on mobile in a while, but I just checked and yeah it's bad. If you click on "New Posts" this is the resulting view (in Chrome on iOS). Not positive, but it seems like it enlarges and then horizontally centers the resulting page whenever you click on a link.

Lol! I thought it was my phone. I’m glad that is not just me and yes, this format freaking sucks.

Re: Format change?

Scroll to the bottom of the page. We launched a new Cookie banner and I believe you will need to dismiss it and the site will return to normal

Re: Format change?

Yes, for me there was a big green 'view mobile site' banner that I clicked and things went back to normal

Re: Format change?

If I do that, it goes to the mobile format which I dislike.

Re: Format change?

There is a big long banner above the "view mobile site". I think that is the cookie banner that IBJoel is talking about. You can dismiss it, but it comes right back on the next hyperlink touch.

Re: Format change?

The big green banner has been there for a long time. Pretty sure that's not what IBJoel is talking about... but I don't see any other banner at the bottom either, so

There's also a new mobile-style header at the top of the page when you're on mobile but using the desktop skin. Maybe it has to do with that as well.

Re: Format change?

This is the one I see, and it changes to different ads. It goes all the way from far left to the far right of the page (and comes back if you dismiss it).

Re: Format change?

Apologies. It's not appearing on my phone anymore, but this is what the banner (well, more of a ribbon, really) looks like:

Re: Format change?

I don’t see an accept cookies banner on my screen. I don’t remember clicking it. I tried logging out and I didn’t see it either.

Re: Format change?

This is how it looks on my mobile device. Notice all the waste of empty real estate dedicated to two ads while the main forum content is all skewed to the left. Almost looks split screen.

Re: Format change?

I'll admit skimming, so missed the crux of this. I don't quite get why people wouldn't like the version of the forum that is formatted to fit their phones, but there is room for more things under the sun or something!

Re: Format change?

I can't see Tweets posted here any more on my mobile browser. I assume that is related to these changes?

I noticed this on my laptop (Chrome) as well. Embedded Tweets and YouTube videos stopped showing up when I opted out of "Sale of Personal Data" cookies.

Re: Format change?

I use the desktop site/full version on my tablet, I dislike the mobile version, but I use uBlock Origin so I don't see the ads. The full version looks fine on my tablet. Don't know what I'd do if they stopped making uBlock Origin...

I don't usually come here on my phone, again because I really do dislike the mobile version, and switching to full version on my phone sucks. I still use uBlock Origin on my phone so I don't see the ads, but scrolling from side to side to view everything in the full version is just not going to happen.

The mobile version looks like an alien landscape to me, I suppose I could get used to it, but since I don't do much on my phone in favor of my tablet at work or my PC at home, there's not much of a chance I'll be needing to come here on my phone.

Seriously someone needs to fix this. Here's what I see when a bunch of tweets are posted :

Re: Format change?

I'm seeing embedded tweets fine in mobile and desktop mode (Edge browser on Android) so that might be a separate thing. Maybe DNS related?

Re: Format change?

I see them when I switch to Full Site mode. Never happened before Tuesday.
How would I fix it if it were a DNS issue?

Re: Format change?

Probably not that then, if you can see it in full mode.
DNS could be tested by installing something like 1.1.1.1 (there's an app!) to see if anything changes when it's enabled.

Re: Format change?

I appreciate that people are working on this, but I’m going to have to cut down on my time here temporarily. This is driving me mad. Maybe I’ll just visit on my tablet for now. It’s still fucked up on there, but at least it’s not as bad.

Ditto on my desktop with firefox. I don't recall opting out of any cookies. I'm also unsure what the "full mode" being mentioned is about.

Showing the regular desktop forum display on a mobile device, unlike the more limited Mobile Browser display I posted on the previous page of this thread.
