Will Internet Brands continue to support DVDTalk?

According to Wikipedia,
As of January, 2023, it is considered a dead site, since its parent company, Internet Brands, is no longer updating it with new content.
I see that there hasn't been a new movie review since January 2023.

What are the future plans for DVDTalk? Is IB going to continue to support the discussion forums?

Yes, when we shut down the editorial side, it was because it was software that was just too customized and outdated to keep going with (and even then, we tried for months). The forums have nothing but support, represent 95% of the traffic to the site, and use the same software all of our other sites use. They are in zero danger.

Re: Will Internet Brands continue to support DVDTalk?

Thank you for starting this topic. Since reading about it this morning, I've been concerned about the future of the site - since this is really the only "social media" place I inflict myself upon.

Re: Will Internet Brands continue to support DVDTalk?

I posted this in the social media thread in the political forum, but it probably goes better here:

Wonder how long the site has left? I will hate to see it go because this is one of the few sites I still frequent regularly. And not being on Facebook and Twitter being a dumpster fire, it is going to hurt when the doors close here.

I know it likely didn't matter but I always thought DVDTalk fucked up when they took the hot links to reviews off the top of the page.

Guess I will show up one day and just not be able to access the site unless they make a formal announcement which I hope they would for us old-timers here. Gonna miss the horror challenge each year. Chad is the fucking man.

Re: Will Internet Brands continue to support DVDTalk?

Tyler Foster posted on Twitter awhile ago that this site has shut down adding new reviews/editorial content. If you don't know who that is, he was on of the reviewers here.

It is what it is. While I've spent many hours here, I know activity has declined a lot in the last 10 years or so. Many don't post regularly anymore, so sometimes it takes days or weeks to get a "reaction" here.

I used to contribute quite actively to TV Talk, but a few years ago, I realized the people who are still around just can't keep up with the onslaught of new content including myself, so it's become a mostly futile task contributing to that forum. Oh well, that's life, people will eventually move on and find other things to do than scream at strangers on a dead message board.

Re: Will Internet Brands continue to support DVDTalk?

I'm going to ask IB about this. I'm concerned too.

My first thought is if we could have some sort of social media gathering place beyond the dead so to speak (if this place shut down), but that might be jumping the gun. I'll let you know what I find out.

Re: Will Internet Brands continue to support DVDTalk?

This is the only forum I frequent. While I used to be somewhat active on others, I have dropped out of them over the years, only to remain here. I'm sure a time will come when this site is no longer here, and it will be really weird. I suppose a private sub on reddit could be created, if there's enough of a warning here before it goes away.

The primary reason I still frequent this message board, is to read the posts of "Alan Smithee". He/she reminds me of how I use to think in regard to audio/video when I was younger.

Oh and if you'd like to keep up with some of our reviewers, Jesse, Kurt, Justin, and several former reviewers are still active at https://www.highdefdigest.com/

This is news to me! (I wasn't contacted by the editor over there, and just let it slide ...)

Damn, I would hate to see this place go away after the twenty plus years I've been posting here.

Maybe Geoff can buy us back.

I would definitely miss having this place. Just a very different tone than other home theater forums.

At least give Adam Tyner the glorious, well-deserved satisfaction of banning every single one of us into oblivion in the final moments of the site right before the shut down!

When the time does come to kill this place off, I suggest that posters be banned one by one, starting with the newest members, and the last final post be a video of an American flag flapping in the breeze while "Nearer My God to Thee" plays.

Or danol comes back with a Boron Cow Punch.

I visit this site a few times a day. Definitely my most visited site after FB. Hoping the forum sticks around.

Glad to hear that Joel.
I’ll be very sad if this place goes away. I can’t even count how often I visit daily.

I don’t always post with the same frequency as I used to but I still do enjoy coming here. Whether it’s to read or to comment in a thread. Easily one of my favorite forums and it’s just chill here. Hopefully it sticks around for a while.

At least we have a Facebook group to confirm that none of us can log on. Too bad we can't have one final thread (unless this thread will be it). At least a few of us follow each other on Facebook to keep in touch.

Re: Will Internet Brands continue to support DVDTalk?

The only other places I've ever called home were AnandTech Forums many many years ago, and PC Pitstop many years ago. I just lost interest in those 2 places, faded away, and only visit PC Pitstop on my birthday (used to be a moderator there but just lost interest, and now I hear their forums have reached end-of-life). I've spent the last 13 years of my life here, I'd hate to see this place disappear. I'm getting too old to be thinking about finding a new home...

I had joined "that other place" many months ago but never felt compelled to post. I mainly looked at info about 4K releases.

How old are you Morris? I am 50, but feel much younger mentally. You have probably bought more discs than I have for the purpose of checking DRM stuff.

Re: Will Internet Brands continue to support DVDTalk?

I'm a little late to the party - but count me as one of those who frequents DVD Talk and a single other site (HTF for those who care). I don't do facebook or any other social networking type site. I'd also wondered what happened to the review section. At least the existing ones are still available for research purposes (and I still use them on a weekly basis).
