Re: The ads seem odd and inappropriate

What’s wrong with underwear for huge dicks, a nostril scratcher, a neck brace for napping animals and a way to make women useful by turning them into soup?

TEMU ads are the best though. There's always at least one thing that makes me wonder what in the heck it is.

Guess I didn’t go hack far enough when I searched for a similar topic.

I thought it was only me getting this cause I’ve been seeing them all over the net. There’s one with the huge bent finger with a penile form that scares the crap out of me when I’m browsing the interwebs

Re: The ads seem odd and inappropriate

Ads are partially determined by cookies (although this is changing) that you and others similar to your profile have. On the other hand, if you're blocking everything, you're going to get stuff that's completely random, although you may get it more frequently.

Ad filtering on our end is sometimes tricky. Temu seems to be... some sort of off-brand Amazon? That would likely put it in the "ecommerce" category in an ad network. Which would also encompass Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, et cetera. We can't really block that category and we can't always single out a specific ad from an ad network.

No, I'm not saying it is you. But you you match the profile of someone who has, you're targeted. It's the same reason why sometimes you get people saying "I swear my phone is listening to my conversations". Search and browsing history is analyzed with available location, age, income, demographic, etc data to form an ad profile. If someone with a similar enough profile uses Temu, the advertising algorithm will display something it believes will appeal to you. In this case, obviously, it doesn't.

TEMU is everywhere now. It looks like they have been pushing advertising pretty hard everywhere, since last year.

I frankly love their rubberized, weirdly shaped mystery objects and body parts.

Temu is a very sketchy site, selling cheap Chinese made crap, hooking you into shopping there with fake "contests", it's a borderline pyramid scheme. Also it's also owned by a company in China, so who knows what happens to your data. Buyer beware.

Re: The ads seem odd and inappropriate

I’m trying to get my 83 year old father to get off that site and stop buying that junk.

He doesn’t even know how to look at his account to see previous purchases.

The other day he bought a bunch of stuff including a flat electric razor head for a beard trimmer.
He asked me to take a look at it to see how to attach it to his shaving blade handle. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Its so disappointing because I know he is smart enough to know better but he has always been so frugal (cheap) that if he thinks he’s getting a deal he can’t help himself.

I feel you, my parents are close to that age and I'm always worried about what they get themselves into online, I've already had to put out a couple fires due to scams. Almost time for me to take their devices away.

Same. My parents and mother-in-law have standing orders to call me if someone emails asking for any information.

You're just stuck with those. It really depends on the ad network

Temu seems sketchy at best, but their ads are pure mysterious visual poetry. I say we need more of them.

At least they got rid of the sexy nine year olds, anything else pales in comparison.
