HD DVD/Blu-ray release calendar: Part 3
I have decided to start a new thread which contains all firm titles which are going to be released for the American market.
There are many other lists, but they are arranged alphabetically, or by format and/or studios. Here I intend to make a list by release date, so that anyone can use it to see what is available at any given moment. I'll update it as more information is disclosed.
To qualify, a title must have been announced by the studio (with price and availability date), or be available for preorder (not availability notification or obvious placeholder) at two different North American sites.
Data followed by an asterisk are unconfirmed, based on general claims by the studio or sources close to it.
Note all data are subject to change at any time until release date.
Color coding:
Red= HD DVD title not announced on Blu-ray
Blue= Blu-ray title not announced on HD DVD
Orange= HD DVD title announced elsewhere on Blu-ray
Green= Blu-ray title announced elsewhere on HD DVD
St: studio (L=Lionsgate, M=MGM, P= Paramount, S= Sony, U= Universal, W=Warner, O=Other)
DT: disk type (DL=dual layer, SL: single layer, CO: combo)
VC: video codec (V=VC-1, M=MPEG-2, A=AVC)
PQ: picture quality rating, taken as the average of the rates given by DVD Town and dvdtalk
Audio: DD+= Dolby Digital+, DTHD=Dolby TrueHD, PCM= uncompressed LPCM

Sorry, my bad. I assumed you were talking about the BD since you had responded to me originally. Anyway, I just got the email notify from them this morning, which is how I knew. I would imagine that the HD-DVD versions should be coming pretty much at the same time, since this is an initial release wave for them.

This list above says 12 Monkeys has DTHD but I have the disk from Netflix and it is not an option. Did Universal drop it? What about for The Thing? It was supposed to have DTHD? Does it? Why would the studios not include something like an DTHD sound track as an option for all releases? Is it a release time constraint?

Universal has, until further notice, dropped Dolby TrueHD on all releases until further notice. To date, the only Universal releases to feature it are Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas and End of Days.

Those new spiffy looking Bond titles arrive on Tuesday. I have no doubt Sony will be releasing Casino Royale as a day and date BD release next Spring. But what about the old Bond films? I would love to have those on BD, but I'm not sure they will debut with Casino Royale next year. I really want these updated versions.

Good question. Sony was after the Bonds to help Blu-Ray out but I'd assume it's in MGM's hands now?

I think Sony has full rights to Casino Royale and the one made after that, but MGM still calls the shots on the old Bonds as far as video releases go. Someone mentioned in the dvd thread that they don't want to re-release these too often on home video. So I'm wondering if they aren't in a big hurry to put them on Blu-ray, even though all of them just received frame-by-frame restorations and have high-def transfers ready to use.
