From what I understand the idea is that they will be doing day and date with the larger new releases (eg Waltz with Bashir) but taking a more considered approach to catalogue releases.

Not sure if it has been mentioned here yet, but Elite Squad comes out in the UK in January.

That is Optimum not AE. It is in the international section. With Cass, Gomorrah, etc.

It's the standard art instead of the Blu-ray, but I'm sure they'll probably look equivalent.

Pulp Fiction has been released and is region free (plays in a PS3). It can be purchased at Axel Music.

^^ Doesn't look like it's region free, though.

Aww, very cool then.

Still a little bit pricey for me, though. Maybe this will inspire a release here in the U.S.

Any information on region coding regarding the upcoming UK BD release of Straw Dogs? I believe that Fremantle is releasing it.

I'd do very bad things to get more Peckinpah in HD.

Anyone have any info on that listing of "Infernal Affairs" Trilogy in Blu-Ray?

I know MegaStar released the set overseas in 2007, will this just be the same set for the U.S market?

It is exactly the same HK set sold through a third party at Amazon.

Winner of the 2008 Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, Elite Squad presents an astonishing and intimate look at Rio de Janeiro’s vast and intricate web of police corruption. It is 1997 and hundreds of thousands live in Rio’s notorious favelas – the volatile slums on the edge of the city. Drug trafficking militias have complete control within the slums while the police run their criminal enterprises outside. Being an honest cop in this environment makes you a target for both. The elite BOPE force (State Police Special Operations Battalion) fights to combat drug trafficking, but keeping order has its price and their actions blur the line between right and wrong, justice and revenge. Two of the force’s newest recruits, Neto (Caio Junqueira) and Matias (Andre Ramiro), are childhood friends: one is quick on the trigger to maintain order and the other forced to compromise his ideals. Together they are the perfect replacement for outgoing BOPE Captain Nascimento, but alone they may not have what it takes to survive.

Isn't Optimum locking their releases to Region B?

I'd like to know too, I thought I had read that 'Son of Rambow' was playable on US machines but not the PAL supplements.

I have SOR, and it does play on US machines, but you have to do some blind fast forwarding and hitting the enter button to get the movie to play. It is worth the wait. Funny movie!

Not if you have a PS3. No amount of fast forward / remote jiggery will get past the 576i50 menu/trailer.

That surprises me. I only have a BDP-S300 and it plays fine.

A lot of the US-market stand-alone players will handle PAL. The PS3, to date, does not.

On my Panasonic Blu-ray player, the way to get Son of Rambow to load is as follows:

- Insert the disc.
- A black screen will appear. Do nothing. After a minute, the player will automatically stop playback.
- Hit Top Menu.

That will bring you to the main menu screen. The video behind the menu is PAL and will not be visible on this player, but the Java menus themselves will appear over a black screen with audio and will work fine. The movie itself plays without issue.

Can others second this? I wasn't aware that some standalones had in-unit PAL -> NTSC conversion.

I wouldn't say that they do. They have PAL upscaling... so, I suppose you could say, PAL -> ATSC conversion.

Got Jarmusch's Dead Man BD from France today. It's region-free, but French subtitles are burnt in.

PQ is really, really good, though.
