Looked for a HD-DVD at Dvd planet and the store clerk told me this

Today I drove to DVD planet to Purchase a couple HD-DVD'S that I have been wanting. They had non of the 5 hd-dvds I wanted and I asked one of the store clerks there why they had 4ish sections of Blueray and only 2ish sections of HD and the worker told me thats becouse Nobody buys HDDVD's and that If i bought HD-DVD's that it was a waste of money becouse they are going to stop making HD-Players. I played stupid and just kept saying Oh wow..really. Sony Must have flexed there muscle with DVD planet.

I heard a similar thing when I went into Sam's Club looking at HD televisions.

I dont see it as being a waste of money - If worse-comes-to-worst, you can always buy a dual format player and probably get a heck of a deal on HD-DVD's at the stores that are trying to clearance these out

regardless - it doesnt matter to me, If one format fails, I'll just contact sleevecity.com and order the appropriate amount of cases I need to go one color

Just dont worry about what others think and buy for your pleasure.

Clerks say plenty of stuff and you want to listen to very little of it. I can't count the number of game store employees that were telling me Nintendo was leaving the hardware business a couple of years ago. How did that prediction work out fellas?

Blu-ray has the advantage but it is such a small market right now both may survive for years. Enjoy the movies and don't worry about it. Worst case you buy a BD player down the road to fill in your collection.

This would worry me more if I was a Toshiba exec as opposed to a consumer.

Someone should let him in on the secret about Toshiba's generation 3 players coming out in October.

He's probably just a fanboy. People say the same thing about the Xbox 360.

Public perception is very much blue at the moment. I was talking about Blu-ray and HD DVD with some coworkers, and most of them mentioned that they heard about the Blockbuster and Target articles, and wouldn't consider HD DVD ("the next Beta" one of them said).

This reminds me of the time when i went to a local BB and asked about HD DVD and they replied back " You mean Blu-Ray?" I just simply turned around and walked away thinking to myself how stupid and brainwashed can you be.

Its actually pretty funny to hear them say that as most of the workers are so uninformed they have no idea what the VHS/Beta war even was, nor that 'Beta' was Sony's format.

Understood, but none of us were not born when the Declaration of Independence was signed either, does not mean we don't know what went on from history books and reading on the internet. :-)

I buy the combo formats when available no matter what for a title I'd normally just get on DVD, and if it's not a combo format disc, I just think about if it's worthy of HD and most of the time that answer is 'no'. So I just buy what's worth it and buy what I like so it's not like I'm plundering a ton of cash down the drain here. I bought my HD-DVD player primarily for upconverting DVD's so, no loss here for me on the hardware end.

danstheday... I brought this up in the store forum. Mark Harrill, DVD Planet director, has been very responsive in the past, and you might like to visit this thread and offer your experience there...

But Blu Ray also has some of the bigger movie studios. 20th Century Fox, Disney and Sony Pictures. On top of that Apple, Dell, Panasonic and even Warner Brothers is part of Blu-Ray's BOD.

You're right Blu-Ray has more support but I think this whole war thing is over rated. Both formats will be around for a while. More choices for the consumers is a good thing

Only one mentioned Beta. None of them knew that Sony was behind Blu-ray (or that Toshiba/Universal is behind HD DVD).

I remember a guy in Blockbuster telling me they would never rent DVD's and the format would fail.

Never trust a saleperson disguised as a clerk. People that let salespeople lead them around and "educate" them are the biggest idiots around, and they deserve to be parted from their cash. Good for the OP to recognize the guy is an idiot, and bravo to DVDPlanet for trying to squash the misinformation.
