You can pre-order a few of them from the Fox store, but they are $31.95...absolutely ridiculous.

You guys in the US must be glutton for punishment if you are prepared to pay these prices !! All for the sake of a some better resolution ?? (Would it 'kill' you to watch them via some player that 'upscales' a SD DVD ??)

In anycase - the limited demand for Blu-ray discs (as compared to SD discs) isn't going to change unless demand increases (like SD) or Fox is prepared to make a 'loss' on the titles and reduce their prices . For example - Fox Australia are selling 'Broken Arrow' SD for $A9 - and the Blu-ray for $A40. Why would you spend 4xtimes the price ??

And what's this all about ..... ????

Upcoming BD-J features exclusive to priority catalogue titles from Fox and MGM include an "Alien Scavenger Hunt" (INDEPENDENCE DAY) that challenges players to earn points by identifying the correct number of aliens in select scenes to unlock additional bonus features; a "Global Warming Trivia Track" (THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW) where users must correctly answer questions about global warming to keep the Earth's temperature from rising and being destroyed; and a historical and geographical pop-up map (MASTER & COMMANDER) that tracks the location of Captain "Lucky" Jack Aubrey and his enemies.
are these the MAJOR selling points for Fox's Blu-ray titles ??? Play some sort of 'game' whilst watching the film ??!!

I'm finding it 'hard' at the moment to watch all the special features, listen to the numerous commentaries, or even bothering listening to soundtracks in different languages. These 'games' looking as thrilling as cleaning the bathroom.

Why do you continuously ask why we choose to spend money on what we want too? We get it, you're not into HD-DVD/BD, but all the "you people in the US..." crap is getting old.

Wow, people complaining about Fox's MSRP should just take a look at Paramounts new pricing for Hd-dvd. 39.99 for A Mighty Heart! Good luck getting more than 3000 copies of that sold come release week!

My distributor put up the fantastic four: rise of the silver surfer today. Msrp of $39.98 with a likely sale price in the $28 range.

Yes, but that's a new release and it's common pricing for new releases from all the studios (except Disney and Warner BDs). Personally, I also think that pricing is kind of high, but $40 MSRP for a catalog title (knowing Fox, it'll probably be barebones) is absolutely ridiculous unless it's like Blade Runner, a 5 disc set with tons of material.

Anyway, Fox updated their Blu-ray page and has some artwork and info for their new releases. Looks like 28 Days Later will indeed be released on BD.

DVDEmpire just added some more titles that weren't on that press release INCLUDING 28 Days later as well as 28 Weeks Later, so the press release was correct.

28 Days Later (10/9)
The Hills Have Eyes 2 (unrated) (10/23)
Home of The Brave (10/23)
Mr. Brooks (10/23)

Why, oh why, are Fox releasing Hills Have Eyes 2 and NOT the much better '06 remake?

Those are for NEW RELEASES.

Fox prices EVERYTHING at $39.99, even shitty, barebones catalog titles like Chain Reaction, which has a higher list price than Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Why?

It seems to be the pattern for all studios to release the most recent of sequels first for some reason, unfortunately. I will pick it up again on Blu-Ray, because #2 has one of the hottest chicks I have ever seen (Jessica Stroup) in it.

As far as the catalog pricing goes, yeah it sucks, but if I'm going to pay that money for a new release like Hills Have Eyes 2, there's no way I'm not going to buy Edward Scissorhands just because I have it on DVD already. For the HD upgrade, I consider catalog titles to be brand new purchases, IMO, not double dips.

Agreed. If you don't understand/care for HD DVD or BD, then stay away. Sheesh!

I can't wait for all the AVS threads complaining about the "crappy upconverted SD master".

SD video upscaled sucks. Period. I can deal with it in many cases, but the cost of the HD discs is worth it in most of the time. However, I own zero Fox discs so they aren't winning me over so far.

Well, I hope you set them straight like you did on the Traffic HD DVD, that was a classic thread!

Upscaled can make things look fantastic though, take a look at Star Wars Episode III or animated features or just many of the big releases period.

But yeah, even a great looking SD disc gets slaughtered in comparison with a true HD image.

Which is $5 more than one month of Netflix's 4 out at a time plan. The prices are insane.

I love upgrading to HD, but $20 is my limit.

Yeah... $20 for a movie is my limit as well. $30-$60 range is reasonable for box sets and what nots. Of course, the limit doesn't apply to personal favorites (willing to pay slightly higher like $30-$40).

Fox titles are pricey, good deal when Amazon do the 50% promotion

As for the listed titles, Robocop, Independence Day and Die Hards for me. However, for Robocop and DH, i prefer box sets...

That's how I got most of my current Fox BD titles during the last 50% off sale. In fact, I think most of my BD titles were bought at 50% off, including recent sales by Sony and Disney too. Even picked up Haunted Mansion for $13.45 from Amazon recently, didn't love the movie, but at that price I can have it around to watch in October with the kids.

I have some nostalgic affection for the Amityville Horror- but also still have some residual happiness over it finally getting an anamorphic enhancement a year or two back. If the msrp is $40, I'll pass fairly easily on it.
In fact, there is nothing in the list I consider a must have at a $40 msrp.
If the Die Hard films are packaged in a box set for some discount with additional discounts from Amazon, then maybe- MAYBE- I'll bite on those (but it would have to work out to $20 each film)- otherwise I will just netflix the few I want to watch- and bide my time until there is some kind of incredible sale.

otherwise, all this Fox news comes across as very little, very late.

Yeah, they should really drop the older titles to $30... but hopefully with some online sales this Nov, they should be about $22.
