so, question: 'Commando' is the theatrical cut and not the recently released DC... right?

Going by the runtime listed on DVDEmpire it looks to be the theatrical version.

themanroom has some rumored dates for the following Blu-Ray titles:

Hitman - 3/18
Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem - 4/15
Enchanted - 3/18

Alien and Aliens have been rumored to be '08 releases. 4/15 seems like a perfect opportunity, especially since Predator is arriving the same day.

Aliens could use a bit o' cleanin' up first. And the soundtrack could use some re-mastering.

Fox better include both cuts of Alien and Aliens along with all the extras from the Quadrilogy! Don't pull another Man on Fire.

There might not be enough room on that BD-25 with MPEG-2...

True, yet Man on Fire was on a BD-50 with AVC and still had nothing but a few trailers. Go figure.

Paramount Delays 'Into the Wild,' 'Things We Lost in the Fire' HD DVDs

Tags: Street Date Changes, Paramount (all tags)

Paramount has announced a street date delay for its HD DVD releases of 'Into the Wild' and 'Things We Lost in the Fire,' pushing both titles back to early March.

As we've previously reported, the studio originally announced the two HD DVD releases for February 12, day-and-date with their standard DVD counterparts. This new street date bump will now see the high-def versions hit store shelves three weeks later, on March 4.

No reason was given for the delay, but specs remain unchanged for both titles, with each including 1080p video and Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround tracks. Previously announced extras include multiple making-of featurettes on both discs, and deleted scenes on 'Things We Lost in the Fire.'

The suggested retail price also holds steady at $39.98 a pop.

Yep, they need a little leeway time to press those BD versions

I know; I was just being overly pessimistic. After all, Fox has given plenty of reason to be.

Bastards! I ordered Into the Wild along with Gone Baby Gone from Amazon so I could get the free shipping. I hope they're nice enough to ship Gone Baby Gone on 2/12 instead of making me wait til 3/4 for both titles.

Usually Amazon will split this stuff...

Case & point: I ordered 3:10 to Yuma & Justice League: The New Frontier on the same order, 3:10 to Yuma is shipping now... I will not be charge shipping.

I thought it was common knowledge that Cameron wanted to retain the grain look for the DVD release - if so, it will be quite apparent on the BR edition - I'm sure we'll hear some bitchin' and moanin' when we actually see the finished disc.

you are correct.

The BR edition definitely will help for seeing more detail, but i'm sure the typical 'OMG this grain looks horrible' cries will be heard

I'll buy AVP:R. It will keep AVP company on my shelf.

I should have listed the audio quality concerns first, because that's the area where I felt the Aliens DVD was the most disappointing. It was rather tinny, unlike its predecessor, which sounded fantastic.

It's not really an issue about the grain, the transfer's just old and doesn't look that great. They wanted to do a new transfer for the Quadrilogy release, but Fox isn't allowed to do new transfers of any of Cameron's films without his involvement. That's why people have been waiting ages for upgrades of The Abyss and True Lies, as well. Cameron really needs to take some time off for this stuff eventually.

Same here. The movie was a lot of fun for anybody familiar with the Disney animated classics.

even though it was featured in the trailer - I still crack up when Prince Edward tries to break out in song, but gets plowed down by the bicyclists. It was great to see Disney go back to the traditional 2D cel animation filmmaking mode.

The Digital Bits is indicating that Master and Commander BD is being held for a Father's Day promotion (not surprising, since it's not available for pre-order anywhere), but also says that new titles like Patton and Mrs. Doubtfire will be joining it in June.
