Maybe if you include PC-gamers, but still, public perception (not limited to the age 10-30 bracket) of video games and dedicated game systems such as XBox 360 and PS3 is that they are, in fact, expensive toys. That's one reason why there's such indignation among the general populace about the high price tag, and certainly a reason why the PS3 trails other game systems in sales. The high price of what most people consider to be a "toy".
Further evidence of public perception (or misconception, if you prefer) regarding video game systems as "toys" is the ire that is provoked by video games which include graphic violence, bad language, and/or sex/nudity. People regard these systems -- and cartoons, and comic books -- as toys intended for children. High prices and adult content have challenged that perception, but not enough to overcome it.

Where exactly are you getting this "public perception" from?
From those that I've spoken with (far removed from the gaming community and parents), most consider the X360 and PS3 to be entertainment centers moreso than "expensive toys" as you put it, due to their multimedia capabilities. The Wii on the otherhand, yes, that gets slumped in as a toy.
But alas, I'm curious where you got your "public perception" from, as I generally am when people bring it up. Did you go question a random group of 1000 people from surrounding areas? Are you going off the fact a couple lawyers with nothing better to do are throwing a hissy fit?

Having not conducted any formal polls, I suppose I'm merely drawing my information from the interaction I've had with other people, which includes a pretty diverse cross-section of ages and interests, as well as my own awareness (questionable as it may be) of current events and popular culture.

BTW, I think we need to bring back the VS thread and/or have a sales figures thread for both formats. There's way too much talk of the other format in each of these "dedicated" threads.

Simpsons will sell well obviously, I would say somewhere around Superbad numbers. Its just not THAT big of an improvement over the DVD.
Regardless, I'll be using my $5 coupon at Target on the Blu-ray tomorrow!

Animation always looks better than live action since the subtle nuances in color are not there, therefore it is easier to digitize and compress. For example, Homer is the same "yellow" across his entire face, but lighting causes several shades across the face in a picture of a real person.

Someone on AVS found Man of Fire and Sunshine early.
Man of Fire, a Fox title, has 0 extras while enjoying the normal Fox pricing. Another pass from me Fox. It even used a 50GB disc

And it totally blows that Man on Fire will be without extras. It's ridicurous.

Regardless, I see extras don't matter in this case, but they do on Harry Potter.
