If they double-dip in the future with better PQ, well, I'll buy that version as well. I mean fuck, I bought "Batman Begins" on Blu after owning the HD-DVD just for the friggin' prologue.

My point. It's Batman. I'll buy it despite it's flaws.
I bought Batman Begins on SD, then on HD-DVD and finally on Blu-Ray. If I were to buy two different releases of TDK on Blu-Ray I feel that I would still be ahead. If increased profit is what it takes to ensure that we see this series continue on then it doesn't bother me.

Those of you that are "voting" with your wallet, and decide not to buy, yes you are sending a message to WB, "hey give us a freaking better release" right....
Well the sad of it is, WB doesn't give a crap about the few here and there that are disappointed in this disc. Why? Well for every 3-4 people here and there that decide not to buy, 50,000 other people just bought it. Its all about the money. We will get a double dip, but I don't see the gripes people are having with this release being resolved anytime soon.

What's funny is this release, both DVD and BD, has sparked more fights, arguments, discontent, love, hate, and a plethora of other emotions from so many people on different forums than any release I have ever seen.

It's one thing to see the guys at AVS talking for 20+ threads over shimmering and halo effects, but its entirely different thing when people all over the place are upset over the presentation, albeit still buying it and recommending it.

Good times.

That might have a little something to do with the fact that it's "The Dark Knight" and not "Speed Racer"..

For those craving more special features, I noticed last night that David S. Goyer (screenwriter) has a video commentary up on BD-Live. I watched the first ten minutes or so and it was pretty interesting. This is finally the kind of worthwhile use of BD-Live that I've been hoping for.

Is this feature downloadable or does it only stream?

As of right now, I believe it only streams, unless I just didn't look close enough.

Can you pause the movie when watching one of the video commentaries? Or fast forward and rewind for that matter?

The Dark Knight Blu-Ray Sales Shatter All Records

Sales of Over 1.7 Million Blu-ray Discs™ Worldwide After One Week

Over 1 Million Blu-ray Discs™ Sold in U. S. Alone

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Dark Knight took the world by storm on Blu-ray and DVD, breaking records for 2008. The blockbuster hit from acclaimed director Christopher Nolan became an instant must-own classic with Blu-ray sales of over 1.7 million units and total DVD and Blu-ray sales of 13.5 million worldwide*, including consumer sales and rental sales, in one week. Brisk consumer sales – totaling over 10 million with one week of sales reported - are expected to continue through the holiday season. The Dark Knight is the best selling Blu-ray title in history and will become the best selling 2008 title overall this week. The response to the digital copy offering included on the Blu-ray and Special Edition DVD has been remarkable with the number of consumers activating their digital copies approaching 300,000. The Dark Knight is already the number one movie for the year on the iTunes 2008 Chart.

The Dark Knight marks the first time that a major feature film has been shot in part using IMAX® cameras, marking a revolutionary integration of film formats. The Dark Knight Blu-ray disc takes advantage of the marriage of IMAX® and 35mm formats by using the hybrid master to replicate the unique theatrical experience. The IMAX scenes are also included on the 2-disc Special Edition as bonus materials.

The Dark Knight comes from Academy Award® nominated filmmaker Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, The Prestige, Memento), and features commanding performances from Christian Bale (Batman Begins, 3:10 to Yuma, The Prestige), Academy Award® Winner Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules, Children of Men), Academy Award® Nominee Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain), Gary Oldman (Hannibal, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), Aaron Eckhart (Thank You For Smoking, No Reservations), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Stranger Than Fiction, World Trade Center) and Academy Award® Winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby, Wanted).

If it hits 2 million, does that mean the EE disappears? 'cause that'd be neat-o.

Oh, I kid. I kid.

Excellent news on the sales figures. Also, it appears digital copies are here to stay. That 300,000 number is incredible.

Now that I have an iPhone, I've begun to better appreciate the digital copy thing, especially for titles I buy in BR.

Yeah, I'm not seeing a problem with that second image either. It looks good to me. Unless I just need a better monitor than this Dell 17" LCD.

So how much of the 1.7 is actually American and Canada?

Edit: Oh, I see. They didn't actually make note to say how much each region did. Very good spin, Warner!

Next time, bold this (though I can see why you wouldn't):
The worldwide numbers include retail and rental sales in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Benelux, and Australia
So not only is Warner counting copies sold at Best Buy, Target, but also ones that were "sold" to rental stores like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. All around the globe.

Oh...you can bet they are! Nearly ever Warner Day and Date in 2009 will include one (as well as most other studios).

Isn't that how all DVD sales are computed?

Still sold copies. Warner moved 1.7m Blu-rays in a week, that's impressive, why? Because it continues to support that Blu is viable mass market format -- and bottomline, if the companies make money off them, we keep seeing them, and I could give a rats ass about anything else.
