I still don't understand why they didn't include the other cuts on Blu-ray. Who the heck is going to watch the SD discs anyway?

Maybe it's a weird rights thing preventing them from simply porting over all of the extras for the new BD release?

The BD includes at least the Theatrical and Director's cuts, and the third cut just has a terrible futuristic alternate ending. The inclusion of the other DVDs is for the extra features -- so really, they could have just included the two "bonus feature" discs.

Whether or not the ending is horrible, I think the complaint is that if you want to watch the ending for shits and giggles, you have to put in another disc.

Also, the edition with the futuristic ending did have some notable scenes put back in the film like the T-1000 search in the stepparents home and a few other little interesting pieces.

The head is awesome...but I'm sticking with my HD DVD Steelbook. Both cuts + DTS MA already.

Just for the record, I said this earlier in the thread: while the trailer voice over guy only mentions the theatrical and director's cut in that trailer on IGN, the video that accompanies it split-screens the same shot of Arnold three times, not two, subtly suggesting that the super-long cut might still be included.

The Digital Bits is reporting that the BD will most likely include ALL 3 cuts.

If that's true, I'm sold.

Re: Rumor: New Terminator 2 Release Coming Soon?

Per the digitalbits, this will have all 3 cuts, 8 hours of bonus features, and over two hours of Bonus View stuff! This is turning out to be the best bang for your buck catalog Blu-ray title yet.

We've got a quick update for you on Lionsgate's upcoming Terminator 2: Skynet Edition Blu-ray Disc release (due 5/19, SRP $29.99). A number of you have asked which version of the film is on the disc. According to the studio's official press release, the disc includes "multiple versions" of T2, likely via seamless branching like the previous DVD, including the 152-minute Special Edition, the 137-minute Theatrical Cut and (we believe) the Extended Special Edition as well (featuring the "2027" alternate ending). All are presented at 1080p resolution in the 2.35 aspect ratio. The transfer is THX certified. Audio will be available in English DTS-HD MA 6.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX, as well as French Dolby 2.0 Surround. English TheatreVision descriptive narrative audio for the blind and vision-impaired will also be included. Once again, extras on the Blu-ray will include 8 hours worth of extras and 140-minutes of "Bonus View" features, including a PiP viewing mode with behind-the-scenes video, text commentaries and multimedia galleries, a second storyboard-to-script viewing mode, audio commentary with director James Cameron and co-writer William Wisher, a second commentary with 26 members of the cast and crew, interactive quizzes and games, BD-Live online features, the THX Optimizer and D-Box motion control system enhancement.

DTS-HD MA 6.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX
isn't this essentially the same thing? the sixth channel being the center rear channel

Blade Runner still seems like the best catalog release yet (in terms of price + features).

Only reason I'm giving the edge to T2 is that Lionsgate is adding specific BonusView content just for the Blu-ray while the Blade Runner Blu-ray doesn't have any exclusive extras to differentiate it from the dvd versions.

I thought the work print version was exclusive to the bluray release.

that I knew, but DTS 6.1 and Dolby Digital EX both have the discrete rear center channel, or is the latter matrixed? I'm drawing a blank.

The center back channel is matrixed in Dolby Digital EX. It's discrete in DTS Master Audio.

I don't care what other formats do or don't get; Blade Runner is still a better BD release than this. That said, "second-best bang-for-buck BD release yet" has a very nice ring, too.

I don't get how this one disc could possibly have over 8 hours of special features on it, yet they are saying you still need the previously released Ultimate and Extreme Edition DVDs to "have all the bonus material available on T2".....I mean, isn't that the whole point of including those previous releases with the super expensive endo-skeleton head version?

Keep mind, like most releases with an exaggerated number hours of special features, they're most likely including the length of the commentary track(s) in the total.

I may bite on this -- I recently sold my SD Ultimate Edition for $25 on Amazon, so I should just about break even.

I'm all over this, but I hope it comes in standard packaging. I've kind of outgrown the nifty packaging phase.. I just prefer standard casing. I guess I'm getting old.

Ok this is what I see 2 BD discs, the 2 disc Extreme Edition, and 2 other discs. Those other discs...are those the special features that really really mattered? Cuz I was displeased by the features on the Extreme Edition, though it's visual and audio presentation is amazing.

The other two discs are the Ultimate Edition as opposed to the DVD-18 that many of us own it on. So basically you would get all the extras for T2 that have ever been released.

A sweet looking skull, but I can't justify the price when I already own the Ultimate and Extreme editions. I'll just be buying the Blu-ray.
