Disney releases "Snow White and the 7 Dwarves" 7 WEEKS Early on Blu-ray
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that the upcoming Platinum Edition Blu-ray release of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', which is due to hit store shelves on October 6th, will precede the DVD release by seven weeks. Those DVD fans who don't wish to wait until November 24th will be happy to hear that the Blu-ray release will include the DVD version as well, so you get both formats in one release!
Bob Chapek, president of Disney, commented that the Blu-ray/DVD combo format would provide owners "another opportunity to maximize their viewing options. With today's technological breakthroughs found in Blu-ray, we are confident that this version of 'Snow White' will easily become the reference point for high-definition home entertainment libraries and family collections all over the world."
When initially released on DVD in 2001, 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' became the first Disney animated classic to sell 1 Million copies in a single day. Hopes are high at the house of mouse that a similar record will be witnessed with this new Platnium release, except this time on the Blu-ray format.
The new release will feature several all-new bonus features that weren't included on the 2001 release.

Wow. Retailers will love Disney for this as will the poor economy. Kids see Snow White on Blu-ray? Sorry, you can't buy the $17 DVD version but instead here is the $28 Blu-ray with bonus DVD! Poor move IMO.

I dunno, I guess I'm happy to see this support for Blu Ray. They should do this with all of their releases to try to make an impact - or at the very least gauge just how many are opting for Blu Ray over DVD. But since we're getting both BD and DVD, doesn't really matter to me. I always will get the BD and my daughter has the DVD for her room. Doesn't seem like the poor economy is really impacting their sales though.
Just curious, but does anyone buy Blu Ray over DVD for their kids if they are released the same day? I would think the BD's are bought by the adults for their viewing as well as their kids. I sure do.

Current format, digital copy and future proof format in one package?
This is completely a no brainier. Disney has this down, 100%. Blu Ray for the home, digital copy for the iPhone, and dvd for the long car rides. Great value.
If the "economy" is hitting you that hard that $10 is going to break you for the choice for 3 different formats in one package, then you most likely shouldn't be buying DVD's in the first place.

Yeah they have to try this kind of thing at some point. I remember I bought a DVD player in November 2000 because Gladiator was out on DVD but wouldn't be on VHS for months.

Yeah, I fail to see how this is a bad thing. In fact, I think it's the best marketing movie a studio has done for blu-ray so far. I guess they learned from the Bolt experiment that the window has to be much larger in order to make an impact and to prevent retailer confusion. Either way, kudos to Disney for a forward thinking marketing move.

I can't recall, but have any of the Platinum's been released with a digital copy? I think they've been 2 discs, 1 movie, 1 Special Features. Nice of them to NOT give us a digital of the clasics.

I really like this move. It might inflate the Blu-ray numbers a bit, but I don't think that's a bad thing. 
At least this starts putting more focus on the Blu-ray release.

Sorry, I think you missed that time Snowmaker. EBay is flooded with the old double disc set. They're selling about about $9.99. I thought about it myself a while back, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle for that price.

I don't know how anyone can see this as a bad thing. Clearly they learned from the whole Bolt controversy.
You're getting two copies of the movie for cheaper than you would if they were available separately which is a good thing.
