The Goonies Rumor - 11/17/09 (Target Exclusive)

From the wonderful guys over at The Digital Bits

We're also hearing (consider this Rumor Mill-worthy) that Target will have another pair of exclusives on 11/17: Gone with the Wind (in a similar BD + DVD/Blu-case configuration, sans all the big box swag) and Goonies. We'll confirm the latter as soon as we can.

I will be sooo excited if this comes true. 'Goonies' is definitely a top 5 favorite movie of all time. Although being a target exclusive makes me think that the special features department hasn't been revisited - which I was hoping for since this year marks the film's 25th anniversary.

I saw a scan of this coming week's ad at blu-ray.com that showed gremlins and wizard of oz (non ultimate) coming out at Target as well. Looks like Best Buy isn't the only one with exclusive time frames anymore.

Decent for a 20 year old flick. Its been a while since I've seen it, but I'd sage a 3.5 on both PQ/AQ. Has a TrueHD track as well!

So, I guess now the million $ question is whether or not the US version will be a new transfer or not. I'd put my money on not, but I've gone this long w/o it on BD. I can wait until Nov.

I also doubt that Warner would do anything more than copy over the existing release. If it's coming stateside soon, it makes sense to wait since chances are strong that this will quickly (if not immediately) be a sub-$15 title at Amazon.

However, as GizmoDVD said it's pretty cheap just to import it from the UK if you are so inclined which is what I did not too long ago. The PQ/AQ won't knock your socks off, but I found it solid enough.

Blu-ray just posted that "The Goonies: 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition" for November 9th!

I think this is probably the one and only time that not only will I purchase the swag box version, but actually want to purchase it!

I'll keep my $15 UK copy . Don't need a big box with useless shit in it.

Ditto. Here's one case where being impatient and importing was actually to my advantage.

~$20 shipped considering the conversion. When VAT comes off it's 9.26 GBP plus 3.08 Air Mail. And I've gotten stuff faster from them than Amazon US in many cases.

Unless they're producing brand new extras, IIRC, all the existing bonus material were made in SD with the exception of the theatrical trailer.

Are the extras on the UK Blu-ray in NTSC or PAL?

That I don't know - I haven't watched them and my player would handle it anyway so I'm not sure I'd notice.

I seem to remember most WB Blu-ray's in the UK being pretty much the same as the US release so this could mean SD extras are NTSC but I can't be sure.

Warner Brothers is producing a lot of new features for the release. The cast have been asked to record yet another commentary as well as participate in a documentary being made for the release.

There's a strong chance Walmart will have a standard 1-disc version of this on Tuesday. Probably for $20. A member on blu-ray.com says a friend of theirs works in the electronics dept. and thought they saw this version. Waiting to hear confirmation.

Was it supposed to? I was wondering about that. I never checked up to see what was on what was on the UK edition.

I think it's just the same extras as the DVD and they just tossed in a bunch of collectible junk.
