any news from Disney on the release of 'Ponyo by the Sea'?
I know that the bluray is streeting in Japan in early December - is there any new news if and when the US version is coming out? I'm really hoping both versions will mirror each other since the Japanese version will contain the original voice track and English dub - and 6.1 DTS-HD sound - but at converted price of 75 bucks - ouch... I know the US bluray will be significantly less expensive.

It was initially thought the US version will be released same time as the Japanese version but was just countered by Disney stating they won't be releasing this until March 2010.

March? That feels like a long wait... oh well. If it means an Academy Award, more Miyazaki on Blu-ray at the same time, and a present for my April birthday - then that's OK in my book.

Re: any news from Disney on the release of 'Ponyo by the Sea'?
December 8th, according to AsianBluRayGuide
Good news for those of us who want to see Hayao Miyazaki's latest Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea in glorious HD as soon as possible without paying a premium price for the Japanese Blu-ray Disc release. According to Rope of Silicone, Walt Disney Home Entertainment will bring the significant cheaper US DVD and Blu-ray Disc release on the same day as in Japan, meaning December 8th. So the October date mentioned back in July was (just as espected) just some retailer related date.
[Oct. 20] Update: According to a tweet from Disney producer Frank Marshall, Ponyo will be released in the US in March 2010! I asked him about the date Rope of Silicone stated but I didn't receive an answer yet. Hard to believe that Disney won't take advantage of the upcoming Christmas sales, especially since a French BD release for December was announced two days ago. [via The Ghibli Blog]

Re: any news from Disney on the release of 'Ponyo by the Sea'?
Frank Marshall, the co-producer of the North American release of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's Ponyo film, confirmed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday evening that the film's DVD and Blu-ray Disc (BD) releases will both ship on March 2. He added that a 2-Disc DVD & Plush Gift Set will bundle a plush doll of the title character for a limited time only. While a similar BD-and-plush gift set has not been scheduled, Marshall said that "if the DVD version works, there could be a Blu-Ray plush version."
Marshall acknowledged that the home video releases was originally slated for December 8, but noted that the final releases will include "a fabulous journey into the World of Ghibli." However, he said the Japanese Ponyo wa Kōshite Umareta ~Miyazaki Hayao no Shisō Katei~ (Ponyo Was Born Like This: Hayao Miyazaki's Thought Process) documentary will only be available in Japan.
The film is still playing in American theaters, where it has grossed US$15,050,041 as of this past Sunday.

For what it's worth, the book of promos that came with Up and Monsters, Inc. on Blu-ray advertise Ponyo coming out on Blu-ray and DVD on December 8th.

Monsters Inc was advertised as coming out earlier than it actually did as well. Lately, Disney has been shifting the release dates of some of their animated titles after they've already printed the promo materials.

I love that line they capped, that life is mysterious and amazing, after Souske tells his mom that Ponyo was a fish and now she's a little girl.

I've never seen this. But based on those screencaps alone. I will be buying this, it looks out of this world.

They dropped the ball by not having the Japanese track as lossless. Come on; it shouldn't be a bandwidth/space issue like it may have been on DVD.

Disney doesn't care. They did the same thing with Hero and I expect the same thing with every non-native English release from them. They suck.

Can you guys check your discs to prove I'm not crazy (or that I am) - or maybe I'm somehow missing it (I checked the menus and pressing "audio" only gives me two tracks: English and French). But dvdBeaver had it on the disc they reviewed, so what gives?
