and possible 3D Bluray releases of Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.
http://hollywoodinhidef.com/2010/08/...-blu-ray-2011/

for those who are kind of worried about how the 3D conversion of Beauty and the beast and Lion King will look.
You should put those fears aside, myself i saw several sequences of Beauty and the beast 3D last year at Show west, and as i said in a different thread last year, it looks amazing.
But now reviews from the Austrailan Engagement of the full movie are appearing online and its getting some great word of mouth

And the best part is that the 3D version is the original theatrical cut excising "Human Again" from the special edition.

Since news of Disneys plans for the animated classics arriving on Bluray in 2011 is starting to trinkle out, thought it would be good if we had a seperate thread from the 2009-2010 thread. So please everyone lets keep this thread to confirmed and rumored releases FOR 2011
What are you talking about ? Human Again was a great addition.

i didnt post the info to begin a commentary on 3D prices in theatres.
just stating that when we started playing the mitsubishi ad yesterday i noticed the box for the 3D starter kit featured the Lion King 3D bluray.
Please keep in mind this thread is about Disney animated bluray plans for 2011
not about what theatre chains are charging for 3D admission.

Because most people prefer the Theatrical cut of the film, yes i agree the song is a excellent number(though i do prefer the original longer 9 min version of the song featured on the boxset years ago) but there is a reason why it was deleted in the first place, it screws with the flow of the story.

on a side note its nice to see someone on youtube posted the bambi trailer so i placed a link to it back on my original post that i started this thread with.

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2011 Bluray plans

In for everything, including the 3D releases which I'm most excited for. Of course, I expect at least 1 of the listed titles to be delayed to 2012 because it's Disney and they change their minds constantly.

BTW, when I bought my first surround sound system back in 2001, a Kenwood HTIB, my parents both reffered to buying and setting up a receiver and six speakers as a huge gimmick. Just sayin ....

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2011 Bluray plans

As was mentioned in the individual Alice thread earlier today, we now know the release date for Alice in Wonderland is set for Feb 1st next year,
cross your fingers this date actually comes to past since the U.S. is still waiting for last Febuary's supposed release of Dumbo that everywhere else around the world got at various points in the spring.

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2011 Bluray plans

Definitely getting everything. I had every single Disney animation film (except direct to DVD sequels) on DVD and I'm starting everything again with blu-ray (as long as it's remastered like the Beauty and the Beast - I didn't realize how bad the DVD looked until I saw this, damn)

But no plans on getting anything 3D until the 3D TV drops in prices to around $1000 range.

Just saw this, great news! With Fantasia out soon & Bambi next year, all the core classics will be available on Blu... they may be slower than hell with everything else, but at least Disney has gotten the most important part of the catalog right.

Your definition of "the core classics" and my definition must not be the same....as I do not see Cinderella, Peter Pan, Lady And The Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, or The Jungle Book on my BD shelf now or by the end of next year....

I think what he means is all of the first 5 Disney animated classics will be on bluray.

1) Snow White
2) Pinnochio
3) Fantasia
4) Dumbo
5) Bambi

Alice in Wonderland is now Up for pre order on Amazon.com for 27.99 which is sure to drop a few dollars between now and feb 1st. Though iam sure most will purchase in store, if Disney continues the upgrade coupons into 2011

Yep. "Core" probably wasn't the best description, but those are the Big 5 and most important by far IMO. I'll be happy to get them all though, except for the bottom-of-the-barrel stuff like Robin Hood (also IMO).

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2011 Bluray plans

Hopefully The digital bits is wrong but they are reporting that Bambi has moved to a april release date now for next year.
Hopefully this is not a indication that the release schedule is going to be thrown into array like it was this year.

they also mention they are contacting the studio to verify there is infact a change in date to 4/19/2011

Fantasia is a 15. Anyone know if the US cut of Dumbo will be same as the UK version?

Re: Walt Disney Animated classics 2011 Bluray plans

It seems a bit overkill that Disney is going to release 6 major titles next year. I wouldn't be surprised if a title gets axed for next year.

Maybe not overkill, but unrealistic.
