Re: Scream Four Movie Set Coming From Anchor Bay, Possibly September

The biggest problem is that studios, unless a filmmaker is involved, almost never have any idea about any of this stuff. The people prepping these films for home video didn't work on them and probably weren't even working at the companies in question when the films were released. It takes someone like Wes Craven saying "where's the cut stuff?" or "I have the cut stuff" for someone to look for it, or a genre-friendly company filled with enthusiasts to know about that kind of thing. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that Lionsgate just acquired these titles, so they'll have another layer of distance from the original materials, and will likely only be able to say "We worked with what we were given."

I don't care about region, I'm saying if it's released uncensored in the world, that's what I'm buying.

And that would require work to be done to make it Blu-ray ready. Disney didn't do the work. So it won't be out there. At least this is my understanding of the issue. The releases out soon were done by Disney and held.

Its 10 seconds..

Exactly, so what's the big deal?? I've seen it, doesn't really impress that much to care enough. If it were 10 MINUTES then I would throw a fit, but for 10 seconds, why does it matter?

Because it would cost money remaster it and reinsert. These are budget releases. It's not very smart for an additional 100 sales, tops.

I'm not arguing why it's not the unrated cut I'm asking why everyone is getting so damn upset over 10 seconds, who cares? I think it's goofy if someone doesn't buy it because it's not the unrated cut.

I think it just comes down to people's willingness to double dip, if it's nothing new they are less likely to.

I'm not going to Scream about the loss of 10 seconds. Just give me the damn movies already and release the 4th one. I'm reading to see Deputy Dewey on a rampage.

Re: Scream Four Movie Set Coming From Anchor Bay, Possibly September

Personally, I think they rated the video quality a bit higher than I probably would have (based on those screen-grabs). I think a 3.5 rating would seem more fair than a 4.0 -- but of course I haven't seen the actual disc so that's something to always consider. The screen grabs make it look like it's only slightly better than the Canadian release. A marginal upgrade. You would think for such a popular franchise they would have restored the image thoroughly but instead this feels like a rush job to promote the new film.

Still, If I didn't already own the Canadian release I would probably buy this edition. I can easily imagine it being a while before we see a much better release (unfortunately).

They tend to rate things higher anyway.

Unless these are like $6-7 each, I'll stick with my Canadian too. Time to rewatch that before I see Scream 4.

Agreed.

Knowing Lionsgate, I'm sure we won't be waiting too long for the discs to hit such a price point.

Is this another way of saying their video grade for Scream is wrong? I'm assuming if HD Digest gives it a 4, then you'd be saying how accurate of a score that is?

I looked up 48 Hours and noticed blu-ray.com gave the video a 2.5 vs the 3.0 that HDD gave it. I'm sure there's other instances where HDD rates the video higher.

Re: Scream Four Movie Set Coming From Anchor Bay, Possibly September

I don't recall bitching about HDDs score before but there is no huge bias there among reviewers. Not really interested in getting in to it, since one site tends to get review copies before anyone else - including ones that have been around for well over a decade.

The only other review gave it a 7/10 (3.5).

And it's only on a 25 GB disc. These are old, prepared some time ago by Disney.

Have you guys spotted these (especially the first one) in the wild yet? Didn't see any at the local Target this morning.
