Wasn't that post from the UK though? Make me wonder if the US discs are still bad.

Giant tools, if the transfer issues truly are as bad as reported. I remember e-mailing them over the sub-par/crippled DVD transfers of DARK KNIGHT and HARRY POTTER 6. Their response was very defensive of Warner.

Who knows about some dude at blu-ray.com. He's probably got some subpar-brand LCD TV, not calibrated - It's probably on torch mode and pushing red - countering the blue push

I haven't seen feedback that we know has a reasonably calibrated set and a decent eye for this kind of thing - except for the review sites which are all noting the blue tint problem.

Re: Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011

Just got back from the Theatrical Presentation of the extended Two Towers in SLC.

First of all... incredible!!

Secondly... Peter Jackson said in the intro that Two Towers & Return of the King HAVE been remastered for this release.

Lastly, however... I swear the last 20-25 minutes of the movie had a very strong discernible green tint to the picture. Haven't seen it in the theaters since it was first released back in 2002, so... maybe it's been there all along. One thing's for sure, it was definitely there tonight.

Just sayin' ...

I'll still buy this set and probably keep my DVD EE if the green is really there. Just hope it's not as bad as we're hearing

Re: Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011

I plan on buying the set and if an exchange happens for the two discs of Fellowship, then I'll happily take part in that exchange.

I appreciate people online trying to get to the bottom of the apparent error, but what matters in the end is will I notice the difference in my setup? The screenshots provided online seem to be from only a couple people right now - as people get their copies tomorrow or this weekend, we'll see what happens.

Just got mine in as well. Looking at Fellowship now. Funny about all the bickering. Looks damn good.

It's still showing as the original price in my Open Orders. Will they automatically change that when it ships?

Re: Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011

They should. Anytime one of my preorders went down in price they either charged me the new price or refunded the difference within 24 hours of shipping.

So there is no noticeable green tint to FOTR that you can tell?

I just got my shipping notice from WB.... but after reading about the green tint I am very tempted to just send it back, unopened, and eat the $4 to $6 return shipping cost. I own the extended editions on DVD already and if there really is a noticeable green tint to FOTR then I think I would rather just watch those versions.

Re: Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011

Yeah there is, but when the movie is actually playing, it's more subtle then looking at a screenshot.

The green is there but it's not as bad/obvious as the screenshots make it out to be. I think when you're looking at one still image it really stands out but when it's moving, it's not distracting.

I still think WB messed up the transfer but not a big issue that some people make it out to be.

You're lucky. I kept trying to get that price to show up, but every time I went there it had it listed for $83, even though my best price locator was coming up with $62.99. Now it's $97.98. Oh well, $69.99 from Amazon isn't too bad.....

I didn't notice the greens all that much either. I do really like the black cases though.

Re: Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 2009 extended edition movies and the release coming out this year, 2011? I just want to know about the movies. I know there is extensive commentary.

You mean differences in the edits? None. These extended editions are the same as the previous releases.

No version of the movies can out on home video in 2009.

The previous Extended Edition DVDs were released the year after theatrical release, so 2002, 2003, and 2004. The Limited Edition DVDs were released in 2007.

For Blu-ray, the Theatrical Editions of the films were released on Blu-ray in 2010. The Extended Editions have not previously been released on Blu-ray

As FinkPish points out the Extended Cuts on the Blu-ray are exactly the same edits as on the EE and LE DVDs. The new Extended Edition Blu-rays contain all the extras from the EE DVDs and LE DVDs combined (excepting the theatrical cut), and none of the extras from the TE DVD/Blu-ray.

For differences between the Theatrical Cuts and Extended Cuts, look here:

Yeah, I'm glad they went with the black cases. They look very cool. I wish we'd get more releases using black.

Re: Lord of the Rings Extended Edition out in 2011

From the Digital Bits Review:

Colors are pleasing too, though it's worth noting that the color timing for these films has been redone. I've confirmed with production-related sources that Jackson and cinematographer Andrew Lesnie were directly involved in all decisions related to this new transfer and approved it personally. So to the extent that there are changes to the color-timing, they were made at Jackson and Lesnie's direction - the films look exactly as they want them to.
Assuming this info is accurate there willl probably not be a disc swap.
