Did you guys know that the town "voice" is in fact Jamie Lee Curtis? And director Tommy Lee Wallace provides the television narrator voice over the Silver Shamrock commercials.

This is what I always tell people. It's a great "Carpenter" film with all his trappings, crew, music & aesthetic. Sure, the plot doesn't make a lick of sense, but it's a damn fun ride.

Fun fact: the town square where Atkins runs to make the phone call is the same one featured in the original INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, and it's right down the street from the church used in THE FOG.

Completely agree; the only reason why I would even think to relate it to the previous films is that it allowed John Carpenter to come in and do an amazing electronic score.

When it was released on home video the studio should have dropped the Halloween III title and just called it Season of the Witch. If the relation to Halloween was dropped, it may have done better on home video.

It's funny how Universal pretty much ignored Halloween II, III, and Phantasm II yet refused to license them out to another studio for the DVD releases.

To MCA's credit, they did make it quite clear on the back of the VHS cover that Halloween III was related to the previous films in name only, even using italics to stress the point!

Definitely in for part 2.

Three is a dull boring mess.

I really really like III. I think if it was just called Season of the Witch people would look back on it as an underrated 80s gem. It was a cool idea and I would have loved to have seen an annual "Halloween" anthology movie made by the same group of people each telling a different story set at Halloween.

I agree.

Don't get me wrong... I love the Micheal Myers character and the mythos. Hell, I've even got a thorn tattoo on my right wrist. But I think the series probably would fared a bit better had it became an anthology series.... maybe occasionally throwing in a Michael story.

They were actually thinking of going the Halloween III route after H20, but that got nixed because the fans voted for a Myers sequel.

Halloween 2 really sort of feels like a pale imitation of the original. I do love Halloween III, though. There are some geniunely scary moments and despite how goofy and illogical the plot is, the general concept is pretty creative and original.

The scene where the "test" family gets it in Halloween III and the kid's head melts into a pile of steaming snakes is still probably the single scariest moment in any of the Halloween movies to my mind.

The fact that the entire sequence is completely nonsensical sort of lessens the scare factor though.

I can confirm 4 & 5 are being worked on, and they're currently planning to include A LOT of bonus features, many new. They should be pretty kick ass if it all comes together.

Not that I know of. I have a connection to the Trancas team responsible for the Halloween films, so I always know what's going on with that series. They've uncovered loads of great material in storage that would be killer on BD.

It had to be one of the longest most boring Q&A ive ever been to. Usually the people they get to do the Q&A at the new beverly are excellent and ask great questions and get a great responses from the guests. this was like a 3 hour ramblings of a over obsessive fan.
Ouch.

It may have run a bit longer than usual but that is due to the fact that the FANS had a lot of questions too, and since no one was giving me the "time's up" sign I kept calling on raised hands. If my own questions bored you, then I apologize. I'm sure the version on the DVD would have been edited down a bit.

But hey, thanks for coming!

Hey, I know this guy! Without revealing my true identity publicly, I'll just say it was good running into you before the Demons panel at WoH.

Oh yea, and welcome to this forum and stuff.

re: Halloween II -- 9/13/11

Thanks! Yeah, I visit the main site a lot when checking specs on discs and/or to see if the screeners I got were missing the bonus features or not. Very thorough reviews. Droidguy alerted me to the thread (which started based on my article for BD!) when KillerCannibal hinted at some new H4/5 blus.... very intrigued. I just hope they carry over the old commentaries so I can ditch the standard def discs.

Halloween III is a genuine guilty pleasure! It sounds odd, but I always felt if they scratched up the film print to give it a "Grindhouse" look it would almost pass as a throwback satire like "Planet Terror" rather than a straight-forward thriller it was intended to be.

I really just like the Nigel Kneal weirdness. The non-sensical nature of the head into snakes thing is what made is so scary to me, it's sort of like some of the weirder things in Suspiria.

re: Halloween II -- 9/13/11

Halloween III is great '80s cheese horror. It was just saddled with a terrible name...the whole name. Was there ever a mention of a witch in the whole movie? Seriously...where did the whole "Season of the Witch" thing even come from? Did they accidentally tack it on the wrong movie? Combine that with the "Halloween" naming fiasco and it's all bad. I get what they wanted to do with the Halloween series, but that should have been out the window as soon as part 2 was made and continued the MM story. At that point Halloween = Michael. You can't break something like that after 2 movies. Had part 2 been different already, it would have been fine.

It's a shame how much that name hurt the movie. If it would have been called "Silver Shamrock", or heck even "Masked Death", or something like that it would be looked back on much more fondly I think.

Halloween II 30th anniversary special edition blu-ray coming sept 13th

Universal officially announced Halloween II on BD today with a street date of 9/13. The cover isn't the original art but rather a close-up of Michael Myers' face (pretty disappointing). But the great news is that there are some great extra features ...

BONUS MATERIALS :
• Alternate Ending
• Deleted Scenes
• Terror In the Aisles Documentary
• BD-Live
• My Scenes
• Pocket BLU App

Retail is only $19.99 as well so this sounds like a good upgrade! No official news on Season of the Witch yet ...
