Amazon's got the BLOOD ISLAND COLLECTION down to $49.99 shipped. Beats Severin and Diabolik by $10, and DeepDiscount by nearly $14, although in fairness the latter had it for mid-$50's fairly recently.

Pretty tempted now . . .

Re: The Official Severin Blu-ray Thread

Thought it might be worth noting that on Severin's own listing for the Blood Island Collection, there's now a banner stating that it's "almost sold out" (regular box set and "Blood Oath Bundle"; the "Dr. Lorca's Head Bundle" is actually sold out). Obviously there are still sets to go around, there and elsewhere, but if that 3,500 run is legit, it might not be wise to hold off.

Re: The Official Severin Blu-ray Thread

Severin's site is officially sold out of all variations of the Blood Island Collection. Still available at Amazon and Deep Discount, presumably elsewhere, although the Family Video deal still seems to be the best.

Re: The Official Severin Blu-ray Thread

Despite (still!) being listed as in-stock, Family Video just sent me an email saying that Blood Island is backordered. Fingers crossed!

The email I received was sorta like 2 emails combined. The first part said order was now in process. The second part said my order was backordered. A little confusing... Gonna be bummed if this gets cancelled!

Yeah, The Blood Island Collection is not worth anywhere near $80 in my opinion. After much deliberation I decided that $40 shipped was my top dollar for this set. I even passed on $44 shipped from Family Video, and it looks like that ship has sailed now.

I have the previously released DVDs of all 4 of these films, and rewatched all 4 when this set was announced, and in the end decided I'd really just be upgrading for the extras primarily, hence my $40 top dollar.

For those who may have missed out on picking this up for a decent price, I really do think there will be a good number of used copies of this set coming up for sale in the coming weeks and months. I say this because although I do like the films they are somewhat esoteric and I think a lot of people who bought it blind will decide it's not their cup of tea. Cheaply made Filipino Horror films are not for every taste.

Who knows, I might even buy a used copy someday if one comes available for $30 or $35.

Re: The Official Severin Blu-ray Thread

No cancellation order here yet, and my initial confirmation email says nothing about backordered, nor did I receive any such followup, so either they had a limited stock and I ordered earliy enough that I may still luck out, or my cancellation notice will surely arrive shortly . . .

I'd bet that your order is fine if you haven't heard anything to the contrary by now. I've seen posts from people on other forums who also ordered from Family Video who received their copies without getting a shipping confirmation.

Well, fingers crossed. I'll be in the U.S. on the weekend to pick stuff up, so perhaps it will be at my postal box by then, assuming it's coming at all.

Re: The Official Severin Blu-ray Thread

Well, Slybone was right: my Blood Island set was at the postal box today. It’s a shame Family Video doesn’t have better inventory control so they could at least know when something is ACTUALLY out of stock and disable purchases so people can actually have a chance at getting the item elsewhere for a decent price instead of getting a last minute cancellation notice.

Cool! Glad to know you received it, and presumably for a good price too! Let us know your thoughts on the contents as well. Maybe you can make me regret not buying it!

Also, what # did you get, 3498/3500 or something?

Re: The Official Severin Blu-ray Thread

Interesting. Mine’s 3441/3500. Perhaps Family Video got the tail end of the run? Still doesn’t justify their lack of inventory control or whatever.

Re: The Official Severin Blu-ray Thread

Yep, I've seen a few folks reporting that they've received copies numbered in the 3300-3400s, so I guess these things really are gone. I'm surprised but glad to know that titles like these can still move a few thousand copies in a short period of time.

Severin and Vinegar Syndrome in particular seem to have perfected this practice, especially with their Black Friday limited editions (apparently the speed of the sell-out of Vinegar's MAUSOLEUM took even them by surprise!). In earlier years, I rarely bit on these, opting to hope that enough copies would remain until a subsequent sale brought the prices down, which often happened, or just holding off until the "standard" editions. Now I seem to have drank the kool-aid and have a hard time resisting prestige treatments of old gems like these. I'm surprised more boutique labels haven't adopted this practice as it seems increasingly like a real marketing win, depending on the titles unearthed. I've seen and/or owned previous versions of the Blood Island films and get a kick out of all of them, and still never thought this set would sell out that fast.

Re: The Official Severin Blu-ray Thread

Anyone else with the Blood Island set have some major audio humming toward the last third of Terror is a Man? I thought my system was shorting out. It’s in the section leading up to, during, and right after the scene with the assistant and the wife in the lab.

Although I don't have the set, the following review excerpt addresses your concern, taken from a review on bluray dot com:

Terror is a Man features a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 mono track whose harshness in the higher frequencies is noticeable right up front courtesy of pretty loud hiss underlying the otherwise "silent" warning title card. Hiss only increases once the credits and score begin, and the very highest string cues actually were almost painful for me, though that said, midrange and low end sounded relatively full bodied. The track continues to have various minor issues like occasional pops and cracks, with dialogue coming through well enough, but what is really problematic is a very loud buzz that shows up and almost overtakes the track at around 54:40, continuing on for quite a while thereafter. It's actually under the big "gimmick" moment of the film, the bell ringing conceit. I actually wondered if this was supposed to be a sound effect for the lab scenes, but it continues under scenes that are far removed from that setting.

So, in short it appears that all copies have this buzz.

I'm not sure I've ever seen any of those movies. Are any of them good?
