Hell, the ten year old could probably teach himself too!

Re: Halloween 35th Anniversary BD

Seems kind of a skimpy for such a pricey release.

Looks like I'll still have to hang on to my DVD 2-disc Limited Edition and old blu-ray to keep all of the old special features (the old documentaries and Criterion commentary) and the full TV cut.

That's AB these days. I'd assume part of the higher price is because of the digibook.

Re: Halloween 35th Anniversary BD

Those special features are very disappointing, I was considering buying this but that review might have changed my mind....

Re: Halloween 35th Anniversary BD

As much as I was hoping for multiple cuts and extensive special features the main aspect I was looking at for this release is the picture quality. The last version of Halloween I bought was the screwed up Divimax DVD several years ago so this will be a worthwhile upgrade. Plus I'm a sucker for digibooks.

Cover art is still horrendous though...

Picture looks great (though I don't have much complaints about the current one). I'll probably pick this one up sometime next year.

Re: Halloween 35th Anniversary BD

I'll wait for this to go down.

Is it sad that I always want a Carpenter/Russell commentary for every Carpenter film? I don't care if he didn't act in it. The man is awesome to hear with Carpenter.

Most DVDs don't do it anymore either, I think chapter titles are kind of cool. I can't imagine it's a financial issue or anything, studios probably don't consider it important. It doesn't affect the quality of the product or anything, it would just be nice to have.

Re: Halloween 35th Anniversary BD

Should I buy this..or wait another 5 years for the 40th anniversary edition..or 15 years for the 50th anniversary edition?
I'll probably be dead by the time the 100th anniversary edition is released.

Re: Halloween 35th Anniversary BD

Anybody get theirs early? I ordered mine from Amazon and it hasn't shipped yet. It doesn't even say "Shipping Soon". I'm considering cancelling it and going to Best Buy on Tuesday. Problem is, I've had some bad luck in recent years with Best Buy on release day.

Decisions, decisions.

I would wait. I have amazon prime, and most releases on Tuesday don't get an email shipping confirmation until Sunday.

In addition to this new Halloween release, I also have Iron Man 3 and Prince of Darkness on order as well, havn't received a shipping notice on either of those yet either.

I'd wait too... I ordered Day of the Dead and Halloween II last week with prime shipping and Amazon ended up sending it out overnight shipping to get it to me on time.

Re: Halloween 35th Anniversary BD

RAH weighs in (though he doesn't weigh in with past comparisons as he like most of us has no reliable frame of reference) favorably

Seems as though we've been receiving special editions of John Carpenter's original 1978 Halloween in Anniversary Editions since at least as far back as 1980, but probably not.

I have no idea how many numbered limited editions have come through the Anchor Bay gates.

A home video perennial, released on laser, DVD and Blu-ray, may finally be close to making fans happy.

Let me state at the outset that I've never researched Halloween. I have no idea what the true and accurate colors should look like. I would also presume that there is no extant color answer print that can be used as reference.

The best that we get, after past releases scorned by active fans of the film, for re-evaluated color and densities, is a new version, based upon a new scan, and supervised and approved by DP Dean Cundey.

I'm going to presume that everything is as it should be.

As a Blu-ray, to my eyes, it looks just fine.

Now re-imagined in Dolby TrueHD 7.1, which can also run properly at 5.1, fans have the ability to discuss whether the monaural is truly the original or a new creation. I'll not go there, as I have no idea.

All that I can relate, is that the experience of viewing and listening to this latest incarnation, is a positive one. And creepy and frightening as ever, and finally worth the upgrade.

Great film.

I wonder what franchise is milked the most, Halloween or Evil Dead. Gotta be pretty close by now.
