It depends how much I like the movie and what my money situation is like.

I generally wait until the price goes down a bit unless it's something I really have to have. I per-ordered Pacific Rim, I'll probably pick up Rush on day one, and I occasionally do it for others, especially more niche titles I'd like to support, but usually, I tend to wait until the price drops a bit.

This.

The last Day 1 release I bought was Fast Five, and my next will be Fast and Furious 6.

I'll wait for the inevitable price drop for everything else.

If the blu ray is new and on a limited run, like steelbooks, digibook, or extra content. I'll usually buy it the day it comes out. Otherwise I generally wait until it goes down in price or Best Buy runs a Trade and Save. However, occasionally I'll pick something up for full price if it's something reasonable under 20 bucks.

I don't have the "gotta get 'em all" OCD that some people have, but I do have the "gotta get 'em now" OCD that makes be buy something I want immediately. Though I'm not sure how much that has to do with my OCD rather than my impatience. But it's only about one or two blu-rays a month, so it's not too bad.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

Over the past year my buying habits have changed dramatically. With money being a bit tighter than it was last year, and the amount of unopened movies I have on my shelf, I can only justify buying a movie on release date if it's an incredible deal or if there's exclusive content like a retailer bonus disc.

I'm not a packaging whore anymore and prefer standard cases to anything fancy (although I'm a sucker for Digibooks), but I know myself and if I miss out on bonus content I'll end up paying more than retail for it down the road on eBay anyway.

Looking now, there are a boatload of catalog titles released this year I want but can't justify the $15 pricetag on each one. I have no problem waiting until BF although there hasn't been a crazy sale at that time on Amazon in a number of years.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

I don't have much desire for new-release prices these days, though last week was odd because I had pre-ordered two items and forgot about them till they shipped and arrived. Little Mermaid was a Disney coupon, and The Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec was a Shout Factory director's cut released only a couple months after the theatrical release. I was going to get the theatrical until someone on this board mentioned the DC so I pre-ordered that instead. Not cheap, but it's a niche release that I wanted to support.

I'll only get the blu-rays of TV series that I'm following on release day, but never movies. And for those TV series, it's got to be ones I'm really into, like GoT, Boardwalk Empire, Spartacus, etc.
