I thought that's why the 'hole in the slipcover' came about, so people couldn't pull this shit anymore.

'Cause that hole made a lot more sense than just shrink-wrapping the damn things!

The hole is so people can't do the reverse, put an alternate slipcover on to get a higher priced disc.

Normally, I wouldn't really care about the steelbook aspect, but you have to admit, with this release, that was a pretty sweet looking case. They at least put some effort into making the design look cool. That's why I wanted one.

But, no luck today with possible re-stock, so I had to settle for the standard version. On the plus side, I did rather serendipitously get a $5 off coupon from Best Buy in my e-mail today, so at least that made it a little easier, and still a better deal price wise than anyone else around.

I thought that's what he was doing. So just putting the slip on a different case of the same movie?

He put the one of the Walmart character slips, which only come with the 1 disc version, over a 3D copy. So he still paid for the 3D movie, because of the hole, but he got a different slip. I wonder what he did with the 3D slip that he took off of it though, hopefully he didn't put it back on the 1 disc version and put it on the shelf.

I was having a hard time deciding which WM slipcover to get. I settled on Rocket. Back in my collecting days I would've also picked up Gamora & Groot.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

I picked up the Rocket Raccoon slipcover from Walmart. I couldn't believe that Walmart actually charged $4 more for the version with the slipcover versus the same disc without the slipcover. Only reason I got it there was because I had a gift card which covered the cost. I should have just ordered the Best Buy steelbook since it was overall a better value. Oh well I guess.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

I picked up the 3D version at Target today for $17.99+ tax with the Cartwheel coupon. The first one I went to was all sold out, but there was another store about 10 minutes away that had a few left. Can't beat that price.

At my local Walmart the version without the slipcover was $17.96 whereas the version with the slipcover was $21.96. I almost wonder if it wasn't marked correctly or something but it was busy and I just wanted to grab it and leave.

I ran no barcode scam, there is a hole in the case. Read again.

Just a slipcover. I would wager to guess that very few Wal-Mart shoppers really care about the slipcover on their BR. Or if they even have one at all...

Really WM should have done it like they did with Cap2 and have the collectible packaging all be 3D versions of the movie.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

I watched it tonight with the family and enjoyed it just as much as I did in the theater. Easily one of the best blu ray releases this year.

I wouldnt call it one of the best. As a product, the BD ain't special. Weak features. Great tech specs but that's usually every new movie. Damn, Disney for hating extensive special features.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

Since I almost never actually watch the special features, I just want the best A/V I can get and in that respect, this release excels. The 3D here is the most consistently solid (99.9% crosstalk free) and least fatiguing that I've experienced yet- and that is compared to several native 3D features.
For a new film, this is the best release of the year for me.

would have been nice if we had a Marvel one shot, or even the full Age Of Ultron Trailer...but the disc has it where it counts.

Really missed the one-shots on this and Winter Soldier. Would have really liked to get a Sif one-shot since she was mostly absent from Dark World.

They're probably holding the good stuff back for the Phase II set.

May I introduce you to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Season 1, Episodes 14 & 15 have tie-ins with Thor: The Dark World due to its video release at the time in which Sif plays a major part of the escapades.

Like Phase I was all that special in terms of features? Beyond what was on the Disc 1s for some, it didn't really add much. It in fact took more away than adding on disc content. Took away some really really solid features from IM1 and IM2. Those really good docs are actually the best features Marvel has had cuz otherwise... nothing really substantial out of being neat EPK stuff. Following that is Disney... who don't like features w/ depth in the material.

Order placed -- thanks for posting!

Wish I'd pre-ordered months ago and gotten the $19.99 price, but glad I'm not missing out entirely.

Damn. It is awesome but I don't know if it is 30 dollars awesome. I was fine with 20 but for some reason 30 seems way too much.

Thanks for the post. I went ahead and said "fuck it" and ordered it.

My family and I went to see it in 3D imax and then my son and I saw it again in 2D. After tickets costs and refreshments, what's another $30 to throw at this movie?
