You mean sharp and spectacularly wrong?

It's a storytelling medium, not an athletic competition.

Anyway, on-topic...

I wish this (Goodfellas) release had come out two years ago, like it was supposed to have, but hopefully we'll at least get the advantage of two years' better encoding, depending on when the compression was performed.

Yeah, I was just referring to the packaging itself. I've never even seen the movie.

Where the fuck is Pesci on the cover?

Pesci's only been in 2 movies in the last 17 years - one of which was just a very small role.
Maybe the studios figure he's already forgotten and his face on the cover isn't going to sell more discs, so just including his name is good enough.

By that reasoning (something I'll admit it can be dangerous to accuse marketing departments of), you could make the same argument about Ray Liotta who has mysteriously kept his place on the cover.

Ray Liotta hasn't exactly been setting the box office on fire, either.

But seeing this is Warners, I'm surprised they didn't put Sam Jackson on the box cover.

He supervised that master back when it was originally created for the DVD, which was around 1998.

By that reasoning you shouldn't put Marlon Brando on the cover of The Godfather.

watch this new remaster have changed color timing (TEAL) and or keep the original lossy audio cause of Warner being lazy

Re: Goodfellas 25th Anniversary Edition (05/05/15)

I have to ask: what's wrong with the original release of Goodfellas on Blu ray? Mind you, I have a 32 inch screen and no major speakers. It doesn't blow me away, but it doesn't offend my eyes either.

I guess something has to be as glaring as the 2002 DVD release of Reservoir Dogs for me to take notice.

The print used wasn't pristine, and the transfer is soft in addition to using an old codec.

The soundtrack is lossy DD at 640k.

Re: Goodfellas 25th Anniversary Edition (05/05/15)

Talking about Reservoir Dogs... we seriously need a new BD on that one. The original sucked, that one needs to be remastered properly.

What was up w/ the DVD of it?

Goodfellas, even when I saw it on the 32 inch in my room, has murky colors, compression issues, it's soft as hell, etc. Mediocre audio too from what others say. And...I couldn't even make it to the title card. RIDDLED w/ issues in that image. Supposedly it was good for when it came out but I don't see how. Worst BD buy ever for me.

re Dogs, it was released in 2007 on dvd w the color red being prominent (i believe the blu is based on that transfer) Still misframed as the famous "walking against the wall" shot during the credits should not show anything above it. Saw a midnight 35mm revival of RD and the against the wall shot was just the wall, no 'dead space' above it

Who gives a fuck about the stupid cover as long as the transfer is great? I don't care.

I just popped in the remastered dvd (the 2 disc set) & yes the opening scene leaves much to be desired

That Blu-ray is virtually indistinguishable from the DVD edition of the movie. It could very much use a remaster.

As much as I want it, there's no way I'm paying that much. I'll wait it out.
