I don't know what they were thinking with this packaging. It sucks.
The Dolby Vision transfer is absolutely beautiful though. The Atmos mix was nice too.

Well, the film did start shooting in 1976, so that was probably around the same time the first SW film also shot. Lucas had even agreed to finish the film should Coppola have died or been able to not finish the film in its entirety. It was a big ass mess. Watch Hearts of Darkness after AN.
Hearts of Darkness is damn near as legendary as the film itself.

Yeah I just got mine today and the packaging is horrendous. WTF? Was Lionsgate really that cheap and couldn't provide a decent plastic case for this?
I look forward to watching this, but damn, this is a disappointing package for what looks like an amazing set.

That's like 9+ hours to watch not counting the extras. I don't think I can watch all 3. I'll definitely watch The Final Cut.

I had a single disc DVD release of HoD previously and it included a 60 min followup documentary called Coda. It doesn't seem to be included in this set.

So theatrical cut is one to go with? Want to see this again soon, having only seen theatrical, but wanted to see Redux version...

If you watch the theatrical version, that would defeat the whole point of this set.
Obviously most don’t have time to watch all 3 versions. But if you purchased this set just to watch the theatrical version, you might as well have just bought a digital copy and passed on this.

Well, they are all remasters so that’s a reason to see TC. Much better than whatever the hell I watched for first time on. And if Redux just has some extended, boring scenes, then doesn’t sound to tempting, but will probably opt for Redux just the same because I am curious...

If you've already seen the theatrical cut then watch the final cut.

Francis Ford Coppola said in the Final Cut intro on the set that The Final Cut is now his preferred version.

Made it up to the Plantation Scene of the Final Cut tonight before running out of gas.
I haven't seen AN in quite awhile...some observations:
1) Acting can be a little suspect at times.
2) Music by Coppola's daddy, Carmine, doesn't really work.
3) Theatrical is the better cut.
4) UHD disk has a distinctly Red Push.

"Well, we can put a slip case with this thing, but it's going to add $3 to the retail price."
"Screw it...we want to keep the MSRP competitive with other releases...who really cares about a box?"

Egos being what they are, Filmmakers hate to leave anything on the cutting room floor.

Re: Apocalypse Now - remastered in 4K - "The Final Cut"
While that's certainly the case for many "director's cuts," there have also been plenty of examples where the theatrical version of a movie was compromised due to studio meddling or the need to hit a specific running time or MPAA rating, and the DC is a legitimate improvement: Blade Runner, Brazil, Legend, Kingdom of Heaven, etc.
