V: The Original Miniseries --> Blu-ray --> 9.27.19

Re: V: The Original Miniseries --> Blu-ray --> 9.27.19
Mine arrived yesterday (from DeepDiscount). Can't watch to watch it this weekend.
I've watched a few times since seeing it as a kid when it first aired (basically when the DVDs came out years ago). Yes, there are dated aspects, but it's really a well done WW2 allegory and holds up well in many ways.

I know. Ridiculous that peeps got and I didn’t. It’s ok. I called, asked, got $20 courtesy credit. So got it for free essentially. Whenever it comes that is.

Hell yeah you made out good OldBoy.
No rush in this title it's not like it's going OOP.
I'm hoping it will go down to $10 for Black Friday. I'm in no rush to get this myself.

It looks good for a Miniseries from the 80s the transfer is nice but the effects are a bit dated here and there. The Extras are the same as the DVD a featurette and its got a Commentary

I swear. I never had this happen on a preordered item with them ever. But the $20 gc more than compensated and bought it so the wait was worth it in the end...

Blu-ray looks good. Clear, crisp, maybe a little bright in some indoor scenes, but I’m sure much better than DVDs I used to own. Sound is consistent. Pretty good with only 2.0. No drop ins or outs. Pretty consistent and clear. Very eager to revisit both mini-series in HD. Too bad no extras at all on Final Battle. I do wonder how they got rights to John Williams Star Wars theme when band played. Maybe GL fan of Johnson? Bc if not must have cost a few doubloons for a made for tv mini-series....

Please tell me someone else getting FB...
Why does this one get such hate? I remembered being just as gripped and when Star child held those controllers together and the music swelled, gets me every time. I do not like as much the whole Julie and her brainwashed dreams. That part bores me. Did they know about series before Final Battle is that why Diana gets away? But fucking Michael Ironside! He blew up after this. Did like 2 really good movies, Total Recall of course, and some others...

Because it's a huge drop in quality from the first miniseries. After the first one was a hit, Final Battle was rushed into production without the show's original creator. The plotting is much dumber and many of the special effects were recycled from the first miniseries.
The Final Battle aired in May 1984 and the weekly series premiered that October with most of the same cast and crew, so they must have been actively planning for it while the miniseries was in production.
On the other hand, calling it "The Final Battle" kind of implies that it was expected to be the end of the story. Most likely, Final Battle was written and started production with the intention of being an ending, but plans changed halfway through so they copped out and left openings for the story to continue.

I do as well. Even the series, which is objectively terrible on every level.

The best thing about The Final Battle is the addition of Michael Ironside as Ham Tyler. He more than makes up for the weaknesses in the storyline.

I really need to pick these up. Any news on the TV show to go along with it?
I even had all the comics and trading cards for this series way back when. It was hot stuff for my 10 year old self at the time.

Re: V: The Original Miniseries --> Blu-ray --> 9.27.19
Haven’t checked out Final Battle yet, but Original mini-series sure has a lot of grain. So if Johnson had no involvement in Final Battle, how did it get made? Did he really sell the rights and have them create something he didn’t write and had no part of?

Re: V: The Original Miniseries --> Blu-ray --> 9.27.19
Writers and directors rarely own the movies or shows they make. When the first miniseries was such a huge hit, the network wanted a sequel miniseries ready to air exactly one year later. Johnson said he didn't want to half-ass something and needed more time to do it right. They said "OK, see ya later" and hired some other TV hacks to crank it out instead.
