I've never been to an advance screening before, though I'd like to check out this movie. Are the tickets free?

Yes they are. But be sure to get there kinda early so you get seats.

I have shown up to screenings that are already full before, and the theatre has let me see a different movie that night for free, but that is a YMMV.

i've never been to an advanced screening either, am i wrong in assuming i could pick up the tix earlier in the day?

Update:
Scratch that idea... i called the theater and was told i'd have to stand in line and wait until the studio rep gave them the go-ahead to distribute the tix. i checked the link i originally posted and it doesn't show that the HI screening is "Sold Out," so i figure i can show up maybe an hour and a half beforehand (maybe get a frappuccino or smoothie while i wait).

For most screenings, one hour is good enough. For big blockbusters, I'd say 2 hours. An hour should be adequate for this movie, IMO...
