I apologize for the lack of frequent updates.

I added everything listed above and also another TV release. The UK has two volume of "Road to Avonlea" containing 4 episodes each.

It's available much cheaper elsewhere -- I just linked to Sazuma because they have more details and the site's in English.

On the Run - Yuen Biao

Japan Region )

This is the Pioneer (Japanese) Mega Star release of this classic Hong King film noir. Mega Star was slated to release the Hong Kong version last October, but it still hasn't happened. That means that some of his dedicated fans have had to pay the very high price to obtain this DVD at www.cdjapan.com.

Specs can be found at

http://www.asiandvdguide.com/reviews/ontherunjp.html

Sherry

Note: On the Run was given a Region 0/NTSC release by Mega Star on March 22, 2002.

I am a bit confused on why Serpent and the Rainbow is listed in R2 UK when it was released by Image under license from Universal Studio (now discontinued but still available).

Also, why the Kingdom I and II (Riget I and II) are listed under the Hong Kong R3 Section when they are both from Taiwan (Forel and another Taiwanese Company).

Here's some Region-2 titles from my own collection that are not on the list:

Germany:

King Kong (1933) (in English w/optional German subtitles; introductory title card text is in German; the transfer is pretty abysmal, with no apparent remastering done)

Japan:

Arizona Dream (English w/optional Japanese subtitles; 135m - which is longer than the drastically edited 119m U.S. cut, but shorter than the 142m European cut; Letterboxed, but can't recall the A.R.; no extras)

Convoy (English w/non-removable Japanese subtitles - even some of the song lyrics are subtitled, vertically on one side of the screen; Pan & Scan; a really faded, crappy transfer; no extras)

Driver, The (English w/optional Japanese subtitles; Anamorphic widescreen; no extras)

Paris, Texas (English w/non-removable Japanese subtitles; Letterboxed; no extras)

Profession: Reporter (English w/optional Japanese subtitles; Letterboxed approx 1.85:1; no extras) .... Somewhat obscure Antonioni movie starring Jack Nicholson; most have never heard of it, let alone seen it.

Rush: Exit Stage Left (English w/non-removable Japanese subtitles - not too important since this is a concert flick, and only the sparse voice-over statements of the band are subtitled; none of the singing is subtitled; Pan & Scan - or should I say 'fullscreen,' since this appears to be a non-theatrical release; no extras)

Also, an update on the various editions of Convoy:
The British and French editions already on the list, which I own and have viewed, have 3 minutes of a scene cut out near the middle. Additionally, while I haven't sampled either of these, editions of Convoy have also been released in the Netherlands and Germany. The German edition is reportedly the only European version that's not edited, and which also includes the theatrical trailer.

Two H.P. Lovecraft based movies, Dagon and Necronomicon are available exclusively in Brazil. They're both fullframe with English Surround and several optional subtitles. Both are NTSC Region 0.

Updated.

Along with the previously posted, I've added the following.

The Hairdresser's Husband (Le mari de la coiffeuse) (1990) - R2/UK and R2/France
Stargate SG-1 Seasons 2-4 - R2/UK (thanks to Stan who emailed me)
Videocq (2001) - R2/France

axolotls return- Regarding The Serpent and the Rainbow, thanks for pointing that out. I'll remove it from the list in the next update unless anyone has any objections. And I think The Kingdom is listed under Hong Kong because it's available through most HK e-tailers. I will also add it under Taiwan on the next update.

hitch_fan- is this the version of The Dam Busters (1954) you were referring to?

yentown- Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no haka), Water Drops on Burning Rocks (Gouttes d'eau sur pierres brûlantes), Head On and Poltergeist have been released in the US. If you're referring to a different Poltergeist, let me know. Also couldn't find Jude or Messengers. Do you know in which year they were made or who directed them? That might make it easier.

Oops sorry about the dupes.

About jude and messengers here are the catalogue numbers:

jude: pibf-7015
messengers: pcbg-00103

Just search for these numbers at cdjapan.co.jp or hmv.co.jp and i'm sure they'll show up because that's where i got 'm from. Or look for the titles at sazuma.com. They WORST site to buy dvd's from (they are thieves and liars) but their site is decent.

cynthia - A note about the Japanese 'Wild At Heart':
The aspect ratio starts out at 2.35:1, which is the correct A.R., but shortly after the opening credits (3:12, to be exact) it goes to about 1.85:1 for the remainder of the movie.
Also, as with many Lynch films on DVD there are no chapters (though the Japanese 'Eraserhead' has 'em). It's a dual-layer disc, and the running time resets to zero at the layer change.
The audio is English and the Japanese subs are removable.
According to CD Japan, this disc is o.o.p. in Japan - FYI.

Silent Running (1972) is coming back to R1 on May 21 in a SE.
And I noticed that 'Miami Vice' is listed twice in the UK section, cynthia.

Moonlighting (the tv show) is available in the UK. It has the pilot episode and two extra episodes. The R1 version only has the pilot episode on it. Does that qualify for this thread?

Also, they've release the Hairdressers Husband? That must give some hope that one of its directors other masterpieces 'Monsieur Hire' will one day be released on DVD with English subtitles. Greatest Foreign Film Ever Made.

They did release it in Japan, but without any English subtitles. Doh!

Updated and added a few Canadian exclusives.

The Bumblebee Flies Anyway (2000)
Gangster No. 1 (2000)
The Hole (2001)
Johnny Suede (1991)
Thomas in Love (Thomas est amoureux) (2000)

And one Mexican exclusive.

Y tu mamá también (2001) (R1 NTSC) - no English subtitles, unfortunately

Does anyone know if the upcoming R1 Legend of 1900 will be uncut?

David Cronenberg's The Brood is available on a PAL R2 DVD from France in anamorphic 16x9, whereas the UK version is pan/scan. I do not know if it has forced french subs.

Dario Argento's Sleepless is available in Italy in anamorphic widescreen and is uncut. There is both English and Italian audio and subtitles. The US version is pan/scan and may be cut.

Holy Mountain (May) and El Topo (July) have been announced for release in Italy from Rarovideo.

I'm not sure if this counts but the U.K Version of the underrated black comedy/horror Cherry Falls is anamorphic widesreen and has 10 minutes of interviews and b-roll footage.

shaggy- since Cherry Falls is widescreen in the US (I think), it's not for this list. It sounds like a candidate for codefree's anamorphic outside R1 thread.

saltysam- Thanks for contributing some titles from Denmark. Do you happen to know the years in which The Driver, The Mission, and Revolution were made? The Internet Movie Database has multiple entries for these titles. If you don't have the years, directors/actors would help in locating the right link as well. Thanks.
