All the rest are in englisch with German DUBBED OVER TOP!!!(No, I am not a fan of this either!!!)
Game "Save Aurora!"- playable without english, I'm sure!!!
Paintstudio, Art Attack "We build a castle" (8 min)
The Story (German Text only)
The production (9 min)
The restauration (3 min),
Widescreen - Pan & Scan Comparison (6 min),
Virtuelle gallery
Picture gallery
Actually, it isn't that bad, because the 3 or 4 short clips on the second disc that are overdubbed in German are actually repeats from the full Making Of available on the first disc in English. So that only leaves the German story text and instructions on how to use the galleries, but since they are organized in the same way as on Snowwhite dvd, that should not be a problem.

I know someone already asked this, but doesn't seem like it was ever actually answered:
are there suggestions as to the best place to actually get this, in terms of best price and lowest shipping?

The Spanish edition is also 1 disc and pan & scan only:

http://www.dvdgo.com/cgi-bin/DVDGO.f...products/40007

Note that they specify the aspect ratio as 1.33:1 and (incorrectly) 16:9.

Buena Vista Spain doesn't have a clue of what DVD is all about (or movies, for that matter). They are also going to release Atlantis mutilated.

Regards.

At EURO 23,00 with shipping costs now reduced by 55% (I did a sample and it was only EURO 15 to Canada) the cheapest I found is Amazon.de. So order a couple of things if the shipping seems high - there's other R2 DVD that are worth having that have not been released elsewhere.

The only other German DVD I know about that sounds intriguing is The Company of Wolves. Any other suggestions?

Also, is that 15 euro shipping for unlimited amount of DVDs?

I actually just answered my own question by checking the thread on movies only available in non-region 1 editions. So here are my new questions:
Can anyone confirm that Absolute Beginners is really widescreen?
And I see that Amazon.de has some Fassbinder titles coming out in April but no tech info on subtitles, etc. Anyone have a clue as to whether they'll included English subs?

Let's see...
Yes COMPANY OF WOLVES is a great little film and a release in R1 seems really far off - if at all.
WENN DIE GONDELN TRAUER TRAGEN (DON'T LOOK NOW) is also really good - it is coming out by overpriced (IMO) Paramount in R1, but wether or not it will be the UNSCENSORED FULL EUROPEAN VERSION is not yet clear (probably not judging by the VHS version)
TRIPLE CROSS (SPION ZWISCHEN ZWEI FRONTEN) is a great euro-war flick with an all star cast and a lot of James Bond actors (director is Bond veteran Terence Young) This is also the longer european version NEVER released in the U.S. - and since it's WARNER here, chances of this one seeing the light of day is also very slim. (stars Christopher Plummer, Romy Schneider, Claudine Auger (THUNDERBALL) Yul Brunner, Gert Frobe (GOLDFINGER), Trevor Howard
For other recommendations check the other thread (sorry, can't find it right now) that lists all the titles available in other regions NOT AVAILABLE IN R1 VERSIONS. GOOD LUCK!!!

France is getting the same DVD version as Germany soon ( no date ):
http://www.dvdfurax.com/default.asp?id=2089&c_datedeb=17/02/2002c_datefin=24/02/2002

Translation:
After the success of White snow and the seven dwarves , Disney will propose great classic Sleeping Beauty in standard edition (disc 1) and collector (+ disc 2).

Here the detail of this edition:
- Disc 1: the film + the making of + the play " save Aurore " + Art Attack
- Disc 2: files of film (graphic search, design of the characters...) + production of the film (music, restoration, comparison of the formats...) + the album of the film (material advertising executive, photographs...) + the history (genesis of the project, first synopses...) + history of Tchaïkovski + tests of Technirama + of documentary of time...
Format: Cinemascope 2.35 - 16/9
the film is labellisé THX and SDR
Languages: English and French in Dolby DIGITAL 5.1, French SDR
Subtitles in English and French

So one can hope for a possible UK release in the same format?

Sleeping Beauty in Britain in THX very unlikely

In Britain films never seem to get a THX treatment and so I doubt very much whether the movie will be released in that process. In fact, were the German DVD version not available in a widescreen version I would have doubted whether it would even have been released in Britain in a widescreen version at all as the recent VHS release in Britain was pan and scan. I suppose Disney only thinks of this film ( and their other animated features too! ) as appealing only to kids and forgets that there is a an adult collectors market out there for its products. I suppose too that this is why they are releasing their Platinum Editions of the classic movies on a one per year basis . A move which to me seems daft and extremly short sighted, as, by the time the last Platinum Edition hits the stands, there will quite probably be several new DVD type formats on the market - what are you playing at guys?

Just got my discs - SLEEPING BEAUTY looks absolutely great - highly recommended!!! WOW!!! It's never looked better!!
COMPANY OF WOLVES is also a great transfer - two/three really dark shots break up a little (minute) but it's probably due to the grainy filmstock. Anyways, this DVD is really great as well.
TRIPLE CROSS looks good as well (not great, but compared to the Warner VHS release it's no comparison - go with the DVD!!!

I wonder why Germany and Switzerland gets this and not the rest of Europe?
Don't know for the rest of Europe but here in Italy they do the same. All the extras of my italian editions of Toy Story, Snowhite, Dinosaur etc etc have the voiceover.

Sleeping Beauty is only a one disc set in Britain!

I live in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, and according to information from my local HMV store, Sleeping Beauty (due out on Monday March 4th ) is only a one disc set. The Disney Stores make me despair. As well as being content to churn out crappy "sequels" to the classics the once great Walt Di$ney Company seems to want to keep the staff members in the dark about product availability. Two weeks ago in the Blackpool store they still didn't know Sleeping Beauty was even coming out on DVD!!

Do wait until the French version comes out April 24 or somewhere round that date. The extras will probably not be over dubbed but subtitled instead. A good english language site to buy from is www.dvdzone2.com. The delivery is cheap to the US but the time is a bit long ( 16-32 days ).

Yes and YES I read his posts. The french DVD will have everything the German DVD has. Take a look at www.devildead.com and search for La belle au bois dormant or use this link and scroll down:

I intended ordering the French version from DVD Zone 2,
but their web page does not state the aspect ratio.

I emailed them for confirmation.

Their first email stated that it would be W/S but shortly after I received another stating that it WAS NOT Widescreen!

Amazon.frs page lists it as Cinemascope.

I'm off to Amazon.de to be safe.

That would probably be a Belgian or Dutch release. If they will release the French version both the ordinary and the collector's version will have cinamascope 16x9 TV enchanced picture.

The aspect ratio on the back cover states 2.35 but the actual image looks more like somewhere between that number and 1.85. I have yet to check out my widescreen laserdisc edition. The aspect ratio though on "Grand Canyon" is around the aspect of "Ben Hur" if not wider - the sound is dynamic, but the print and DVD transfer is a mess, shimmering is rampant.

I'm not trying to spam this board, but I ordered this disc and a couple extra copies to reduce the shipping and because I thought others might be interested.

If you'd like a copy of this DVD (I'm in the U.S.) please let me know. I have two
extras. Price is $29 shipping (Priority Mail) included.

Let me know if you are interested by posting here or e-mailing me at:
