Nope...it's supposed to come out in Feb.

and I'm more than a little $@$%ed off that Disney is NOT RELEASING THE DAMN THING IN R1!!!! Will they do it later? Will they ever do it? Do they want us to buy a R2 DVD and then they'll come out with a nifty R1 to entice us to buy another version? Shame on you, Disney!!! Release your films in your own country first!!!
Seriously, as far as press releases are concerned...there is no intention or plan to release this film on a R1 for .....well a heck of a long time. I hope I'm wrong...
Signed,
Confused about wether or not to get the R2 DVD or wait!!!

Slightly off-topic, but if someone in USA cannot find a way to get 'Sleeping Beauty' I could trade with him/her, here in Finland we'll get it on 15th. It isn't yet clear if we'll have only 1-disc edition or also 2-disc, but with 'Snow White' we got excellent double disc too. Surprisingly Snow White CE had English cover, there was only small sticker saying 1st disc in Finnish too. Somehow I've got feeling they'll translate everything in Germany

I would be interested in a trade if your version of Sleeping Beauty is indeed the 2-disc version. What are you looking for?

Based on the foreign price on that link (and the current currency conversion rate), it looks like it's selling for a bit under $23.00.

And in Switzerland too . I bought this today in a store, but they've had them for a few days already--it's the same German edition pictured in the first post.

Haven't had time to look at the extras on the second disc (except one, see below) but for me the primary reason was to finally be able to see this movie in widescreen. And it looks positively gorgeous here. The extra that I did take a look at is widescreen/pan&scan comparison. The difference is demonstrated on three sequences, one of which was the one that I was actually hoping they would include here: "Once Upon a Dream" segment in the forest--quite possibly the most beautiful ten minutes to ever come out of Disney studio.

Note for the english speakers who are thinking about ordering this--menus on the second disc are in German language and some of the content is translated with voiceovers instead of subtitles so you can't quite hear the English original.

Anyway, I'm not really sure why Disney is releasing this first in Region 2 (is it even anounced in Region 1? Amazon.com page for this movie is their standard placeholder 'enter-your-email-and-we'll-let-you-know-when-this-is released' page), but I sure as hell am happy to have it .

I

P.S. The date is most definitely Feb 7, not July 2.

It's scheduled for release in the UK on March 4th. Here are the extras according to The R2 Project:

- The Making Of Sleeping Beauty
- The Design
- The Music
- Storyboard sequence: The capture of the Prince
- Storyboard sequence: The fairies put the castle to sleep
- Character Design virtual gallery
- Briar Rose dance reference (Helene Stanley)
- Rescue Aurora set top game
- Ink and paint studio set top game
- Art Attack - How to make a Magic Castle

R1 is bound to get it sometime this year, too. (Hopefully)

Sorry guys, I just got specs and looks like it may be only 1-disc edition we get However, specs are given vaguely, in my opinion there's more stuff than on the 1st German disc but less than Amazon DE lists.

I probably won't get further information until I really see the package, so we must wait until 15th.

At last "The Mistress of All Evil" comes to DVD!!

Hooray! At last Disney's greatest villain or one of their greatest villains, Maleficent, can be seen on DVD in all her widescreen glory!! With one of the most exciting chase sequences as it's finale ( Prince Phillip versus Maleficent as the horned dragon ) IMHO this has always been one of the Walt Disney Studios' most underrated movies. Buy it now!!
PS The Nostalgia Factory.com has a wonderful poster of the flaming Maleficent bearing down on Aurora and the Prince. Check it out!

Sorry, no it doesn't. Only German and English dolby 5.1. It does however have Italian subtitles, and also English, French, Spanish and German.

The full list of extras included in this German edition is as follows:
- The Making Of Sleeping Beauty
- The Design
- The Music
- Storyboard sequence: The capture of the Prince
- Storyboard sequence: The fairies put the castle to sleep
- Character Design virtual gallery
- Briar Rose dance reference (Helene Stanley)
- Rescue Aurora set top game
- Ink and paint studio set top game
- Art Attack - How to make a Magic Castle
- Design of the Backgrounds
- Development of the story
- Restauration demo
- Widescreen/Pan&Scan comparison on three sequences
- Layouts and Backgrounds virtual gallery
- Artistic concepts virtual gallery
- Publicity photos/merchandise photo galery
- "Peter Tchaikovsky story" - Disney short film
- "Painting of a Tree" - Disney Short film
- "Grand Canyon" - Disney Short film

Many of the extras include participation from Leonard Maltin, also from several of the animators of the original movie, including Eyvind Earle, the person responsible for the unique visual design. Also present is Mary Costa, the voice of the title character.

So, anyone that has this, could you please tell me and others which of the special "programs" that have German Voiceovers?

I, for one, feel that the habit of dubbing movies is horrible and voiceovers are in that category. If there were subtitles as well, for these voiceover parts, then it wouldn't be too bad.

I wonder why Germany and Switzerland gets this and not the rest of Europe?

I went to buy Sleeping Beauty but had to leave it there, local Disney has literally mutilated the princess, aspect ratio is 1.33:1

Why they did it for us while German speaking countries got everything??

I find this very strange--the German/Swiss version does not contain Pan and Scan even as an option. Heck, one of the extras is WS/PS comparison showing you how much you miss on P&S version--it's not one of those 'it's open matte' things, this is a real widescreen movie.

There was certainly enough space on the disk to include both versions (the movie is only about 70 minutes long) so that's not it.

Is Finnish version 1 or 2 discs?

For those interested, four of the features (the really important main ones) that are in english with optional german subtitles:
Making Of (16 min),
How a tree is drawn (16 min)
Grand Canyon (29 min)
The Peter Tschaikowsky-Story (29 min)

All the rest are in englisch with German DUBBED OVER TOP!!!(No, I am not a fan of this either!!!)
Game "Save Aurora!"- playable without english, I'm sure!!!
Paintstudio, Art Attack "We build a castle" (8 min)
The Story (German Text only)
The production (9 min)
The restauration (3 min),
Widescreen - Pan & Scan Comparison (6 min),
Virtuelle gallery
Picture gallery

Hope this helps all those interested in ordering this!!!!

I ordered this but have not yet received it. But considering that the "dubbed over" extras are fairly selfexplanatory (and only 24 minutes of the over 2 hours of extras) I think most people will be able to live with this - especially as no release date has been planned for this on R1 - although I have a feeling that might change whenever the mouse feels like it. It is one of my absolut favorites as well, so no question - I'm not waiting any more - especially since the German reviews are really good for this 2 DVD set (yes, I can speak german, which helps of course)
