Beautiful Girls R2 anamorphic?
I've seen specs on web sites stating that it is but I would like to know if anyone has this disc and can confirm if it is or not.
I've been tricked before as Lawn Dogs is not anamorphic in R2.
Thanks.

Good question but who knows. I just spent half an hour searching fruitlessly.
UK review sites really are pathetic. In years of looking I've never found one UK review of a UK DVD I was interested in that gave some solid technical information like this. The best I could find was this. Many stores refer to it as anamorphic too, but they've been wrong on this plenty of times.
This great DVDTalk thread seems to only be enthusiastic about the Spanish version for some reason, not the UK one. I haven't been able to work out why yet.

Wow! 16 months for a reply.
Didn't pick up a copy till 2 months ago. So if you want this animorphic disc try looking at cd-wow. With a special offer I picked mine up for $10 and change shipped.

Thanks Trencher...I'm very fond of this movie, but held off since it was non-anamorphic.
Could you comment on your experience with CD-Wow and also the presentation quality of the movie?
Thanks!

CD-Wow is very good. They ship out of Hong Kong and usually only takes about a week to arrive. If you have any problems customer service is good.
As far as picture quality; it's just average. Much like other titles that are not high priority. I figure if you love this movie this is the best version to get. To top it off I it's only $9.95 shipped right now.

My copy of the R2 Beautiful Girls arrived today courtesy of the fantasticaly cheap (providing they stock it) people at cd-wow. Cannot recommend them highly enough, they must be losing money hand over fist charging so little.
My first comparison was on my TV and it was obvious that the anamorphic PAL picture destroys the non-anamorphic NTSC one from the R1 disc. Scan lines are very visible in NTSC and edges were noticeably ragged. That was the biggest difference by far first time out.
Taking some screenshots on the PC told a slightly different story. A R1 picture is here and a R2 one here. Note that I had to scale the R4 picture using Photoshop because it's anamorphic but other than that I left things alone.
On the PC the R2 color looks much, much better, although this is not exactly a colorful movie. The detail was a bit tricky for me to judge as the R1 picture can look quite reasonable, but also seems to often have plenty of grain. The R2 picture has a slightly wider and taller visible area, yet the R1 in that screenshot has an annoying line running down the right hand side too that I didn't notice at the time.
The color differences seemed starker that what I'd seen on TV so I went back and checked. It's a little difficult because of the long delays changing discs over and sitting throught the warnings etc. and I can't claim to be particularly gifted at the technical jargon and stuff but the R2 did have beter colors, but not quite to the degree that these pictures might indicate. The most obvious advantage was in scan lines / resolution.
So that's an hour's worth of mucking around for you guys. I haven't actually looked at both discs on my projector yet (and it prefers NTSC) so that might change things but I have to say that for such a great movie this upgrade was well and truly worth the US$10.
