Having recently converted my Apex to regionfree and enjoyed the R3 version of Battle Royale, I'm interested in picking up Taxi and/or Taxi 2 next. At DDD House, I see that Taxi is an R3 version, while on ebay (at the moment) there is a version selling that claims to be all-region. Is this correct, are there really two versions from HK? BTW, I'm not interested in the R2 French version because I would prefer the English subtitles. Which version would you recommend I get (for either title) and where should I buy them? Thanks for any replies.

The R0 HK release is a bootleg and is Pan & Scan I believe. The R3 release is the legit Universe release with non-anamorphic letterbox. There are also legit R0 Taiwanese and Korean releases. The Taiwan release is letterbox, while the Korean release in anamorphic widescreen. All have DD 5.1 sound and English subtitles.

There is also a Korean R0 release of Taxi 2 that has DTS sound and anamorphic widescreen. The HK R3 DTS disc has these features as well, while the Taiwan release is full frame. You can buy these releases at http://pokerindustries.com and http://www.dvdasian.com

the korean R0 of Taxi 1 is slgihtly cut unfortunatly.. during the scene where Marion Cotillard and Samy Naceri are in bed.

so the HK region 3's are probably the best to go for with thier cheap price

Are the subs burnt in? Is it anamorphic? Any cuts? Everybody seems to be talking about the asian versions only. I wouldn't mind a cheaper alternative if the quality is decent.

Well, I have an anamorphic widescreen region 3! Universe Laser puts it out (Taxi 2 DTS). I paid 10.99 on ebay from Hong Kong.

The UK R2 of Taxi only has 2.0 sound.. hence the R3 being prefered I guess Andras has an R2 from elsewhere in Europe.

The UK DVD PAL of Taxi is really nice and UNCUT (which in this case is very important for this movie... I mean... it really is )

Yeah, despite the 2.0 sound, it has English subtitles and its uncut. I actually have the R2 Japanese version of both movies, but its only Japanese subtitles, so even if I wanted to lend it to my English speaking friends, I couldn't...now that's no longer an issue though.

As for Taxi 2, I'll probably pick up the R0 Korean version.
