The Kingdom R1
I'm looking for a Region 1 copy of Von Trier's The Kingdom. I've seen a couple different copies offered, but they seem to differ in length as well as the number of parts (4 or 5). Does anyone have an opinion on what they consider the best available copy of this wonderful miniseries? dc

The Canadian R1 (actually R0) release by Seville has 5 episodes (3 on the first disc and 2 on the other). The running time is listed as 265 minutes on the back of the case. The subtitles are non-removable but they subtitle the credits when Lars is talking.

Kingdom Come
The Seville release also maintains all of the Von Trier monolouges at the end of the episodes, subtitled. The UK? disc only features two of them. I'd recommend the Seville release as it covers the bases and handles the video end of the material as well as any other disc. Hopefully they'll have a forthcoming set for the Kingdom 2.

How long ago did the Canadian version come out?
I have had the R0 Asian version for quite some time and this Canadian release totally passed me by.
The Von Trier monolouges at the end of the episodes, subtitled and intact for each episode (not just the end of each disc) would be nice, but I am not sure if it warrants buying it again just for that.
Had I not already had a version, I would definitely recommend getting the version that has the closing comments for each episode, and has them subtitled.

Hi benjsimpson,
Unfortunately I picked this one up at the local Virgin Megastore (yes I'm a lazy/impatient SOB as I could have gotten this one at cost anyways) so I can't recommend where to pick it up online for the best price! The price Decal lists isn't bad for the disc. I order most of my R1 discs via work so I can't really speak for many of the online stores in Canada.
The Canadian disc came out around a month to a month and a half ago I think. I never got any new release data for it so I can't say for sure.

Hi...Does anyone know how the R2 release here: http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000062090 compares to the region 1?
It is more expensive but it does have the doco Tranceformer...a great extra,a film in it's own right...I just need to be sure that it has all the von Trier commentarys and intros, which isn't specified at blackstar
thanks decal for the tip about thunderdvd.com...great prices!
