I agree with Axololts. The DTS is very good on the StarMax release. The subtitles weren't that bad since I've seen worse, but there were a few instances when I was "taken out" of the movie experience when the subtitles had unexplained lines through them or spelling errors. Still, it was quite infrequent and not enough to ruin my enjoyment of this film.

i plan to buy this movie, and plan to play it on my computer dvd-rom that i've upgraded to become reigon free, so the reigon isn't a question. but i haven't tested it with reigons other than r1 and r0, and i'm unsure if a pal disc will be displayed on my monitor properly. does anyone have any experience with this? any advice? thanks!

I was able to pick up the Starmax one with the map. 
And is there a funny coloring transition in the scene with Mitsuko and Hirono? Seems like before Hirono starts to run away. the scene is a bit colder with blue hues.. then when the shot is reversed it seems warmer and brighter.

I ordered the Korean one from HKFlix (a week ago and no shipment e-mail yet) is it going to have some weird jittering? Also, how long does HKFlix take to ship a DVD?

I just got the Starmax one and am a little disappointed in the picture. The picture on my Tartan 2 DVD set PAL Tin is much better on a HDTV Widescreen set. But the DTS track makes up for that.
BTW I did get the one with the map! Pretty cool.
Its is too bad the 2 DVD set didn't have DTS then that would be the ultimate set to get. Also because the 2 DVD with that has subs for the extra's...

Since you live in Southern California you "could" drive over and pick it up yourself, (saving the shipping charge) but you'll still have to pay state sales tax. Their price is $24.95--five bucks off the MSR. Call first and maybe they'll give you a better discount since they won't have to process and package your order.

IMHO, The latest released and best quality DVD so far is the Korean Director's Cut. It includes a cut of the movie which is 122 minutes as opposed to the Extended cut which is 118 minutes (as far as I can tell.) The main problem with the Korean version is that the extras do not have English subtitles so you either have to figure out what they're talking about or have an understanding of Japanese or be able to read Korean.
OK. I'm still confused. :-(
Which is longer? The Korean director's cut or the UK extended cut? I understand the PAL speed up, etc, but does the Korean version contain ANY footage not in the UK version?
