SEVEN SAMURAI. a perfect film, a perfect samurai film, a must own film.
I really love Seven Samurai. However, I think once you see a large amount of the 59-72 Chambara (swordplay) films, you will probably find other favorites.

Kurosawa made a perfect John Ford film in Seven Samurai. Possibly even better than Ford made them. However, the genre that he created with Seven Samurai and Yojimbo churned out some unfreakin'believably great films.

Similarly, Fistful of Dollars (a ripoff of Yojimbo) created a new genre (Spaghetti Westerns) but definitely wasn't the greatest of said genre (although it was Leone's later works that many think are the best....)

I agree that Seven Samurai is a "must-have."

ZIPANG!!!

Okay so it's not really a true Samurai film, but it does have Ninja's, some Samurai characters and Samurai swordplay. Think of it more as an Action/Adventure, Fantasy/Swordplay film with dashes of classic HK cinema mixed in with crazy ideas only the Japanese would put on screen... Easily one of my favorite films I've watched all year.
